As a seasoned postie of nearly twenty years i am becoming increasingly concerned over the delivery spans we are being asked to complete. As we know the CWU gave up the maximum delivery span in the last agreement for i'm sure legitimate reasons. But my concerns are twofold, one, that this is being abused in our office where early morning overtime sorters are brought in to minimise indoor work therefore allowing more time to lapse and increase delivery spans. This is particuarly gruelling on busy days where this practice still leaves time to lapse outdoor. The second of my concerns is that i do not see these large delivery spans being sustainable for me for another twenty years which is what i have left roughly. I am suffering with aches and pains and other foot problems as many others do i expect.
Is this delivery stucture sustainable as a career or will we find people doing the job in their twentys and thirties and then moving on? I personally would like to have seen more indoor work, ie double prep maybe, and smaller more sustainable delivery spans.

you cannot bring in people on o/t and then lapse, we were told that at a meeting this week, if you are lapsing, it is because there is time to lapse, if your manager is bringing people in on o/t, to prep mail, he is actually saying, "YOU CANNOT LAPSE"

Dunno about you people, we have a mass mailing tomorrow for every person on the electoral register. I said to DIM today we cannot take double lapsing to which he replied "you'll just have to go over".......great when you have no rep isn't it?osgoody1970 wrote:you cannot bring in people on o/t and then lapse, we were told that at a meeting this week, if you are lapsing, it is because there is time to lapse, if your manager is bringing people in on o/t, to prep mail, he is actually saying, "YOU CANNOT LAPSE"

Our rep said no lapsing agreed unless all overtime is first stopped over the summer. No one to come in early to do ips etc and no one to go out early with the packets for the shared vans that can't get round even in the summer.

Re: Delivery span / Career span
So it seems we need some clarification from HQ on this as it seems widespread.
