Seaton sees success

Seaton delivery office in Devon has one of the best first-time delivery rates in the UK. Here’s some of their top tips.

Know your neighbours

Postman Andy Widger says: ‘One of my top tips is get to know your customers, and if possible, on first name terms. Then you’ll know where to leave a parcel if one of your customers isn’t in.’

Follow the rules

Delivery office manager, Paul Clode says: ‘If your parcel has a Safeplace instruction, leave it in a safe place. If it doesn’t, and your customer is not in, attempt Delivery to Neighbour*.’

Delivery to Neighbour

‘First-time delivery is vital,’ says postman Derek House. ‘People want their items and they want them as soon as possible.

‘Delivery to Neighbour is something that some of us have been doing for years and years. Now it’s been rolled out nationally, it can only be a good thing.’

Apparently we've got to hit a 95% success rate but my argument is if they're (delivery address and neightbours) not in then there is nothing you can do! Plus the fact that you can run out of time due to the amount of lapsing these days.

Govan delivery office in Glasgow has one of the worst first-time delivery rates in the UK. Here’s some of their top tips.

Don't f**k with the neighbours

Postman Big Frankie "Bawbag" McSporran says: ‘One of my top tips is don't talk to the customers, and if possible, don't even make eye contact. Then you’ll know you might have a chance to see your kids grow up.’

Follow the rules

Delivery office manager, Noncie "Naebaws" McSpineless says: ‘If your parcel has a Safeplace instruction, there's every chance it's drugs so just leave it at the local crack house and leg it. If it doesn’t, and your customer is not in, it's probable an axe, or maybe a meat cleaver so just leave it in the nearest playground*.’

Delivery to Neighbour

‘Survival is vital,’ says postman Mason Orange. ‘People want their chibs and drugs and they want them as soon as possible and if they don't get them because you've been dumb enough to leave them with a rival dealer you're likely to get stabbed.

‘Delivery to Neighbour is something that some of us have been avoiding for years and years. Now it’s been rolled out nationally, it can only get messy in The Wine Alley.’

Sloane Square Delivery Office in London also has one of the worst first-time delivery rates.

Customer Cressida Coutts-Jetsettington of The Mansion, Moneypot Mews said: "It's frightful. I ordered my Badminton tickets on-line and some awful spiv in a Royal Mail uniform wouldn't wait the fifteen minutes it takes me to get from the Drawing Room in the West Wing to the main gate. Normally Smithers would have gone to the door but he's in hospital after a crate of Pimms fell on him. I had to get Wadsworth to take me to the Delivery Office in the Roller after lunchtime drinks at the Garrick."

Customer Camilla Chase-Manhattan of Belgravia Palace, Old Money Row added: "I was expecting my invitation to the Queen Charlotte's Ball and happened to be driving along Victoria Street in the Bentley - the British Racing Green one, that is, as the Silver one is having some more diamonds set into the wheels - when I saw some lower-class postman type skulking along the pavement. So, holding a scented nose posy in front of my face, I informed said oik who I was and that he should have a Special Delivery for me. Well, do you know what? He said that he couldn't hand over the item in the street. And me being tenth in line to the throne! He then said that if I were to arrange to be back at the Palace before 1pm he would deliver it to me there. The cheek of it! Doesn't he realize some of us have a life?"

Later our reporter spotted a man wearing an orange uniform with TNT written on it dumping a load of mail in a bush just off Knightsbridge. Our man asked him what he was doing. "Err ... I find it helps me to finish on time if I chuck all the post away instead of delivering it. After all, we don't have any standards to maintain."

Surely first-time delivery rates is proportionate to unemployment rates, or inversely proportionate to employment rates. :Very Happy

A recipient is not allowed to decide which neighbour the mail intended for their property can be left with, (that decision lies only with the sender). They cannot also ask you to leave the item elsewhere, their options are Postman decides based on their evaluation or all mail is returned to the Delivery Office.
Delivery office manager, Paul Clode wrote:‘If your parcel has a Safeplace instruction, leave it in a safe place. If it doesn’t, and your customer is not in, attempt Delivery to Neighbour*.’
The security of the mail is paramount, if the Postman does not deem the location as Safe then the only logical alternative SAFE location is the Delivery Office
postman Derek House wrote:‘First-time delivery is vital,’ says . ‘People want their items and they want them as soon as possible.

‘Delivery to Neighbour is something that some of us have been doing for years and years. Now it’s been rolled out nationally, it can only be a good thing.’
Callers offices are open six days per week in a nearby location and stay open late at least one night per week. This is the only benefit we have as the market share leader and one we should be championing not trying to phase out!

Serious question, how do they work out the first time delivery rate? They know the number coming back but they cant know for certain the number going out? Or is it a "make it up to beat the staff with"
