Privatisation starts to hit home....

So, we had a visit today from an area/sector manager or whoever he was. He had a walk around the office, asking people how lapsing was going, then pointing to the frames, started talking about TNT deliveries and how those frames will have nothing in them in 2 years time.

Then he mentions loads of staff on temporary contracts are being laid off in the next couple of weeks.

A couple of hours later all of the staff in our office on temporary contracts have been given 2 weeks notice several of them have got just under 2 years service in, the point at which they would/should have been given permanent contracts.

We had every manager in the office out on delivery yesterday because we were so understaffed, and they've just got rid of 5% of the remaining staff.

What's the betting they take on a load of new staff in September, ones they can leave on temporary contracts then get rid of again?

Not only this but they are suspending and sacking people for minor things, for instance anyone failing two specials will be up in front of the DOM. At this rate in a few years time RM will have exactly what they want, a fully flexible part time workforce all on temporary contracts.

Failing 2 specials and it's a visit to the dom? Why would he not be bothered the 1st time you fail a special? Nobody's failed a special at our place without having to give an explanation to the dom.

And that's not a new thing brought in since privatisation.

Think yourself lucky, We NEVER have anyone visit out our office before we go out, either RM or CWU so we do not have contact with anyone apart from our DOM. Things go on day to day which I know are not part of the last agreement so we never get a chance to air our views or grievances as we never get a huddle or meeting of any kind. Just a flyer telling us "Dogs bite" The suns hot" and "make sure you deliver first time" . Our union rep is next to useless, works in the locker so he doesn't give a F..k what happens on delivery as long as he is ok. Never worked for a company which doesn't give a toss for its employees.

I just don't know if TNT with its min wage no contract workers will every carry it off. Its one thing delivering pizza leaflets but something else delivering bank statements and passports.

Most end up in the bushes or next door or stolen what have the minimum wage workers to lose feck all.

2 weeks ago i was sat in canteen before my shift started and rep was spouting off about union protecting our jobs,
i instantly pointed out 2 managers prepping walks to him, he sat down and shut up, did nothing!

Due to have some new recruits starting soon but apparently they've been stopped from higher up. As a result DOM has stopped anymore AL for the rest of the year as we're short staffed.

Fail one and it's an explanation needed, fail two and it's disciplinary action possibly leading to dismissal.

Take one missort back to the office before your finish time and you'll be suspended for wilful delay.

Two have already been sacked and others suspended for minor stuff that would never have gone any further than a few words previously.

We've got a really good rep, he's already got some staff made up from temporary FT to permanent, but there was nothing he could do about this. He talked with the manager for a significant amount of time trying to stop it.
