Yeah, sometimes people just don't even glance at the card. A few weeks back I'd filled out a P739 not as you should, but just wrote in big letters in the address section of it which neighbour it was waiting for them at, even put a big 'X' over the rest of the card. He came and found me about 30 mins later waving the card at me and asking for his parcel!

I had a delivery point shouting hell at me about the card through her letterbox and the parcel left next door who are now away for a few day. Wasn't even our P739 but a Parcleforce one

That's how I do it all the time, never a problem. It reads 'something for you - AT NO.?? NEXT DOOR'.Plus date and time and number of parcels. Simple and effective.

Our DOM confirmed this week that if someone approaches you in the street with their 739 and ID, or 739 and it's someone you know, you should give them their parcel and that includes Specials.

How long will it be before the PDA interface changes to prompt you to attempt to deliver to neighbour when you click on "Not Delivered"?

Erm... My point was that i didn't have the parcel, the neighbour did. I think maybe you read the post as accurately as he read the p739!

I am not sure why a postie will categorically refuse to give a parcel or Signed For upon receipt of a P739 whilst still on the round -

One of the objectives of DTN is to reduce complaints and enhance customer retention and RM reputation - we do not have to believe that 100% but they are valid points. So why be so obstructive to a customer?

If you know the customer and/or it is obvious that they could not have got the P739 any other way, then you should hand over their item and move on... And that is better than DTN in my view.

* Aside: attempted a delivery to a neighbour yesterday - unsuccessful; however, today, the house has gone all CSI and the most of street cordoned off. What do you make of that?

The RM Investigations team was probably dusting the doorbell and/or knocker for your fingerprints to check you really did attempt deliver to neighbour. Probably also interviewing neighbours to check for eye witnesses, and reviewing CCTV.

The answer is because we have been told by management that under no circumstances do you give mail to anyone in the street, end of. They didn't even trot out their usual bullshit prevarication, you know the one, the phrase that absolves them of any blame while leaving you wide open to all sorts of aggro. "use your common sense"

I have never been told not to give mail out on the street. And I do read quite a lot of RM stuff and I have not heard of such a policy. As long as you can verify that it is the person - you can always ask for ID, why over-complicate things.

DTN has now obviously superseded the idea that you cannot hand mail out on the street. You are effectively given mail and sometimes asking people to sign for things that do not belong to them. The competition is doing so and RM wants us to do the same - you do as you are asked; simples!
