Special leave
Just want to know if apply for special leave without pay for about a week for some family problem, can they refuse to grant me.

As far as I know the answer is YES they can but it depends entirely on the circumstances. If they refuse special leave without pay than what options are left for me as I won't be able to attend the work.

They'll give you unpaid leave if you give them enough notice. They are nice like that.

I agree, unpaid special leave seems to be granted with no problems. Paid is another matter.
