Right basically I need Saturday off for a close family members wedding, I pretty much have to be there. What happened is I got my days off mixed up this week and thought i was off Saturday anyways but turns out i am due in. I have lieu days from last year and the year before that i have previously been asking for and not getting, they always say they cannot give me said days off. Just don't know what to do :/

ask your work mates for a swap of day off thats about your only choice other than asking your dom for the holiday

Waiting on reply from a colleague, he is my only chance as dom said they are 7 people down on Saturday already.

You can write to the DOM stating the law about holidays etc, and force him to give you the day off, Keith Humphries on the CWU Facebook page has a template letter for people to use.

He said he was owed holidays, you are supposed to take your holiday entitlement in the year it is due, you shouldn't have to carry days over because Royal Mail don't employ enough people, it's not your problem, i8t theirs he can insist on taking those lieu days, whenever he wants to.

Holiday dates are at the employees discretion, the point we all fall into the seniority and picking weeks is an agreement, not the law, you are entitled to take your holidays as and when you want them, the amount of notice you need to give is the same as the amount of days you want to take, so for a days leave, he need only give a days notice.

But the employer does not need to give you them at the dates you have selected, in fact on the very page link you posted it states:

"Although employers can refuse to give leave at a certain time, they can’t refuse to let workers take the leave at all."

Also the notice to take leave is actually twice the amount of time required, and the employer has to give notice of refusal within same time as length of leave request

They can always state that there is a ceiling for the number of people on leave ,that ceiling has been reached and no more leave can be taken /granted over and above that ceiling. Regrettably,whilst I have every sympathy with you and hate supporting the official line,if it is full, it is full. You could always try and strike some kind of deal, job and finish in return for extra lapsing,next week, or get your partner if you work with one, to do a bit extra. I have seen people pay others to do some of their walk ,whether that is acceptable or not to your manager is another matter. I cannot see how you can force them to grant your request though.
