1st time posting. was wondering do royal mail do the hgv driver training. our centre is full of agency and i would would be interested in a job doing that. dunno if there is some sort of scheme that they help you pay for it

It would depend on what class of HGV you wish to be trained on.
Standard Class 3 ( Vehicles at 7.5 Tonne) in some areas come under the control of MC and distribution section>
Class 1 & 2 HGV are under the control of Logistics.
You will need to make your enquiry through your local office which you wish to be trained on and they should point you in the right direction.
Normally you to not have to pay for your training but you will have to reimburse the company for the costs incurred for your training on a sliding scale if you decide to leave the business.

RM dont do put staff through their hgv licences

enquire with the CWU, they do have limited spaces for this each year

dazza, get your rep or you can do it yourself to contact the Area Union Learning Rep, they will have all the necessary information on the HGV course if that's an avenue you want to go down.

Exert from Professional Drivers Agreement 2007:-9.6. Candidates will also be required to sign a training agreement which will agree to the following (see Appendix 4):



Ø Business funding will be provided for one attempt at the relevant licence.

Ø Failure at the first attempt will result in the candidate being offered a second attempt which Royal Mail will half fund (one further period of training and test) with the driver funding the remaining sum.

Ø Where a driver successfully passes at the second attempt the money will be reimbursed in full.

Ø No business funding will be made available for a third attempt.

Ø Where a candidate still wishes to have a third attempt they will be allowed to do so if they fund it themselves.

Ø Exceptionally at the sole discretion of Royal Mail, where a further independent assessment indicates that only a minimal amount of further training would result in a pass at the third attempt, Royal Mail may agree to fund this.

Ø Individuals would be required to accept when they pass the first role offered to them at a location within a reasonable distance of their home, irrespective of the working hours.

If you have already checked RMG job vacancies and found nothing.
With a bit of research and not knowing what part of the country you are based would suggest that you find the nearest distribution centre to you where most of the LGV operate from and they come under Royal Mail Logistics and you should be able to get a telephone number for them.
You could also try Parcelforce.

what is the point of driving training.
most royal mail vehicles should not be on the road, the fleet has been so run down in the last
few years it is an embarrassment.most parts are now brought on e-bay or taken from vehicles
that have been wrote off.there is no reserve vans left in most areas and as for the garages how
many mechanics still working they have no chance.
and when you brake down what are the famous words WILL YOU CLEAR YOUR GUARANTEE DELIVERIES BY 1PM.
