TNT TAKING OVER?

Apparantely tnt are moving in soon to our area also amazon have set up own delivery service as well ,dom says to keep jobs we will prob have to lapse more walks and cut early ot out can anyone else tell me how they have been affected by tnt and amazon ,does it make much more difference when doing walk and what is future for rm if tnt just deliver to big areas should we be worried about our jobs? and now amazon delivering own parcels it sounds like rm are going downhill fast!

i am afraid to say your right to be worried.the likes of tnt and amazon are all over this market now,the days of royal mail being the leader in this industry are over.we can point the finger of blame in many areas,but the simple truth is the company has been run like a corner shop for years and years.now it has fell so far behind in such a small space of time you can only imagine what the next 3-5 years will bring..ultimate decline unless someone with some serious business knowledge grabs it by the scruff of the neck and runs it properly..the present board have not got a clue and it doesnt look like changing any time soon,by which time the damage will be irreversible..

Things are certainly looking grim and it is not a bright future.

Amazon are delivering there own parcels in the NG area, every courier has lost the Amazon contract and it has had a huge impact on the entire NG area, if TNT move in as well, well it could be the end of many jobs.

Currently our safe guard is the 5 year deal our union made, but that deal could be the downfall for Royal Mail.
There is simply not enough work to sustain our contracts and because Royal Mail hands are tied, well, you do the sums !!

The future is not bright, but it is orange !!

Does it make a difference?
One day last week while delivering the even numbers of a short street I had one letter for number 26 and one letter for number 16.
So yes it makes a difference and the argument that the duty still takes the same time because the call rate is the same doesn't hold up in my experience.

Should we be worrying about our jobs?
Worrying won't change anything but the maths is simple - if TNT create 20 000 jobs we will lose 20 000 jobs.
At least 20 000 jobs because the end of the ability to cross subsidise could be the death knell for a lot of rural deliveries.
And the loss of 20 000 paying members would also be the end of the CWU as a stand alone union and the end of the protection that brings.

Still, looking on the bright side ..........

remember you are talking about a company that has made a billion in profit in the last 24 months.
Off the top of my head i cannot think of many companies,private or public that has made that much profit in the last 24 months in the uk, maybe you could think of some?
I remember being told by a line manager 5 years back that we would need 5-10 door to doors every week to fill our bags in the future as they would be empty, well he was wrong as you cannot get the mail in the bags for packets & parcels!!!
This company has a future,a very bright future as internet shopping is going nowhere its only going to get bigger & bigger, which means there will be enough business to go around for everyone.
Lets see how long tnt & amazon last, from what ive read & heard there standard of work is shocking! driving round dumping brand new iphone boxes on door steps in the peeing down rain, dumping sack fulls of mail in bushes anywhere they can etc,
Time will tell & im glad im employed by royalmail & not TNT, if you feel otherwise, apply for a job there or quit whining!

remember you are talking about a company that has made a billion in profit in the last 22 months.
Off the top of my head i cannot think of many companies,private or public that has made that much profit in the last 24 months in the uk, maybe you could think of some?

the post i relied to was whining about the current board not being up to the job & not having a clue how to run the company.
No i do not work in the NG area, but i can have an opinion & my opinion is royal mail is & still will be turning a tidy profit for years to come, they will modernize & find new areas of business like with the sun newspapers while continuing to grow the packet side.
Jobs will always go in everyjob in life, but i feel alot more secure in this job than some of my friends in factorys etc

Fair comment,i dont compete with tnt in my area.
I was talking about tnt taking over the royal mail everywhere, i dont see that happening nor do i think thats their plan.
Time will tell, none of us know how the current fight by the company & the cwu about fairness within the market will end, lets hope we get everyone on the same playing field then we will be in a much stronger position.

exactly right i am concerned like everyone about jobs as have young family etc , i think this job is ok yes its hard work but u would get less money elsewhere it is shattering i am out 4 and a half -5 hrs a day delivering but overall quite happy i wanted feedback on areas where tnt are i think next 3 years will see big changes maybe stop sat deliveries except urgent documents and just deliver 1st class parcels on sat and sun? then they could in theory not need floaters just get us to work alternate sat or sun just asking if you now have more work to do where tnt and amazon are?

yes i work in the NG area and amazon are on our doorstep right now.in my mail centre the words that were said and i quote "where are all the packets going"..well we know now!!like i said before its only just started.are we up to it,looking at how fast things are moving i would say no.but we live in hope,dont think any body who has felt the impact is "whinging" just being realistic and seeing whats actually happening in there area..royal mail doesnt move fast...that will have to change....fast.or bury your head in the sand,remember the ad we love parcels,well we better had and quick.

tesco,asda,lidl,aldi,co cop, sainsburys,waitrose......... all do exaclty the same thing, & they all are still around making profit & paying peoples wages.
They just have to adapt, & constantly look at new ways of doing things to bring customers in! Royal mail will have to do the same & im sure the current board of leaders recognize this aswell.
