SA's collections may soon be gone!

I've been told that the regulator has agreed that RM can go ahead and change the time we empty boxes. The idea be that they no longer have SA collections but those collection's are to be done by delivery staff. Anyone confirm this?

I believe so, yes.

Apparently, RM have asked and agreed with OFCOM that 'stick boxes' that currently have the 'Rest of the UK' designation, i.e. they are emptied between 16:00 and 17:30, can be emptied from 13:00.
The plan is for delivery staff in CDV's to empty the boxes on their way back into the office.

I think they are looking to start the process within the next 6 to 12 months, if not sooner.

If OFCOM have agreed already then why would RM wait another 6 to 12 months? That's a lot of (what is now suddenly) unnecessary SA overtime being paid out. Anyone know what the minimum time allowed for them to cancel your SA? It's probably not months but weeks, I'm guessing.

BTW, I don't know if other regions do, but we do this already on a Saturday at our place as there are no SA duties on that day because the last lorry for the mail centre leaves our DO early on that day.

Sad to hear about this, it makes a nice little boost in the pay packet doing an afternoon SA. Not too much effort either just driving round. I thought it would come to an end eventually. On the plus side this might actually stop the runners, if we have box times set near to finishing times then they would have to wait for the boxes.

I thought that this would happen eventually.In the DO's that I worked in we always emptied the boxes on our rounds on a Saturday and we also did it again on the following Monday ( we were told that this would help out the MC's).I can think of a few ex colleagues of mine that are going to be pretty miffed at this.

i can remember a while ago RM saying that, when you get mail you should have a time difference between receipt and your ability to reply, last post time, so postie delivers at 1pm you read and reply last box time 1600, i can see them getting rid of the collections that go through out the day to delivery, but moving last box collections? i'm not so sure,

is it just me this all sounds like back to the future coz when i started this job we had to empty boxes on the way back to the office then sort it ...that was 20 odd years ago tho

Typical starting a delivery/collections duty(mon to fri) in three weeks.If the boxes are done by delivery duties at say 2pm there"s half my duty gone
