I have 2 weeks left on my contract and had nothing through the post for my new one yet but i keep asking my managers at work and they keep fobbing me off which is a bit strange!!! I have had 4 days off since working here, 2 for an injury and 2 for family emergency and i think they have held that against me. I had a fall 2 months into the job and and manager told me they ordered me some new shoes, took pictures and all that but about 3 weeks ago my shoes were unwearable so my manager gave me his to wear which are a size too big for me and i have been having knee pain every since so i went drs yesterday and they told me to talk to my manager again about new ones coz his shoes are the reason i'm in pain, went in today and told him what the doc said and he ordered me a pair, so he actually never ordered me a pair 4 month or 3 weeks ago and now i'm knocking back pain killers for fun and walking on a battered knee and not knowing if i'm even getting a new contract.
sorry to waffle on but i'm really worried and pissed off, just need a bit of guidance. thanks

Advice - Join the CWU if not already a member.
See the Rep and ask his advice, hopefully he will speak to the boss on your behalf.
If they continue to employ you beyond your contract, which is possible if he is ordering shoes for you, then you are entitled to the same rights as long-term employees who have worked the same length of time as you. Ie set notice periods etc.

Re: CONTRACTS
Got my new contract in the post three days after my old one had run out. Being late seems to be quite normal nowadays.
Dom should know anyway if you're contract is being renewed or not you would think.

Re: CONTRACTS
No that would need a new contract and it would explain the changes in your employment.longliveme wrote:TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Advice - Join the CWU if not already a member.

If you continue to work beyond the expiry date of a current contract then the contract is deemed to be the same just with no end date, and the your rights to certain amounts of notice and other rights based on time served kick in.

Working longer than the contract’s end date
If an employee continues working past the end of a contract without it being formally renewed, there’s an ‘implied agreement’ by the employer that the end date has changed.
The employer still needs to give proper notice if they want to dismiss the worker.

Re: CONTRACTS
I have been with RM less than 2 years. I am running out of space to store the bloody contracts I keep getting. I had 2 6-monthers. Then 2 months past the expiry of the latter 6-monther got a 2-monther which ran out a week after I signed it. Then go a 1-monther. This expired 6 weeks ago, yesterday got a 3-monther which expires in 6 weeks. It's obvious the new DIM is keeping me with as little commitment as he can get away with, ready to boot me the moment he decides the workload is too light. My rep has informed me some people who came in well AFTER me have got permanents, but with hours cut. He also said the local agreement after reorganization included making the old temps permanent, and they would anyway after 2 years as per the national agreements.
I just give up - I simply check the rota every Thursday, "yeah I've got a job next week" and that's how I carry on. Getting a bit p!ssed-off with the stress and doubt hanging over me for over a year now...
