Leave packets so you can lapse

Heard it all today. manager said due to sick were lapsing 4 walks. if you cant do it then leave all your large packets. a new time low. cannot believe wthat we heard.

Am I being naive or is it possible that the manager can get the large parcels covered easily on overtime later. This happens every so often at our place because it doesn't take long for one person to do an old fashioned parcel delivery like we used to in the afternoons pre p&l.

No they can not do this packets under 20kg is covered under the uso

They can do it.
Firstly because as stated the delivery of the packets may have been resourced differently and there may have been no failure of the USO.
And secondly as long as all efforts were made to clear the office, the level of sickness will be a mitigating factor in any reported failure.
After all we fail the USO when it snows or is windy or there is an accident.

The 2014 Agenda for Growth agreement states very clearly that lapsing should be considered in relation to predicted mail volumes and specifically states it MUST NOT be used to cover staffing problems.

i have no idea if the manager had available people to cover the pkts on overtime later. if going by what usualy happens at our office, then no. during the busy period packets usually sit for several days until an easy day comes up. theres always an excuse for them. But the fact was he had several people offering to do overtime. about 50 percent of the lapsing was took, the remainding done on overtime. yes no packets were left and the office was clear, but the manager was willing to let everyone just leave their packets so they can collapse.

the uk legislation doesnt put a maximum weight on it, it actually states all postal packets in fact the UK USO is more stringent that the minimum EU requirements
