Supporting Research Concerning the Work Experiences of Deaf Workers

The Equal Opportunities Department was recently approached by student Tanyel Oktar, who is studying a PhD in Anthropology at the Brunel University. As part of Ms Oktar’s research, she is examining social and work experiences of deaf individuals. She is BSL literate and is currently completing her level 2 studies. The Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) is also working with Ms Oktar, as they prepare for Hidden Disabilities Week and specifically targeting work around deaf awareness.

We would be grateful if those Branches with any CWU deaf members could assist Ms Oktar with her research, as it is important for us to understand the experiences of deaf workers in greater detail.

Ms Oktar has indicated to us that she is willing to travel to meet individuals or groups of deaf workers and anyone wishing to assist her in facilitating this important research can contact her direct via her e-mail address: tanyel.oktar@brunel.ac.uk. Research can be carried out via social media contact but Ms Oktar has indicated a preference, where practical, to meet deaf workers face-to-face.
