Asked to work when sick.

Has anyone ever been asked to ignore their Dr's advice and come to work whilst covered by a sick note ?

Thanks, I have been off a number of weeks having suffered a mental breakdown which was caused by struggling with a long standing medical condition. RM seemingly want to turn the screws big time now despite my GP saying emphatically I am not yet fit for work. I feel I am being pressurised which is absolutely the last thing I need at the moment & if they did but know it they are pushing me even further back from recovery.

Some (poor) managers will try this. Ignore it. Your recovery is far more important than a Dom trying to cover a duty.

Threaten the manager with a grievance if he doesn't back off, that's the last thing a manager wants on his record at the moment

Now just a minute I have known staff to work while having a fit note, more fool them if you don't take you GPs advice then why then should your GP treat you, Its not the doms that are doing it its the dsms because while your at home you are costing them money, Also in my area in the last three weeks the dsm instructed all his doms to get all those on sick to attend the weekly work time listening sessions and the area rep has let him get away with it. My advice is stay on sick until you and your GP decide you are fit to return to work, all the best mate get well soon.

i know a postman who had 4 weeks+ sick note remaining (serious dog bite on duty) and was told to either come in on light duties or quit, apparently this was also agreed with the union rep.

We had a fella who was off for almost two years with mental health issues (came back earlier this year). As far as I am aware you are more or less untouchable if it's mental health related as the duration of your sickness is indefinite and not something they can determine. They will probably keep pushing for you to either come back or take ihr, but just keep resting the b******s until you feel ready to come back.
