Summer Lapsing.

Post by thewackymonkey »

Hi,
I would be greatful if there are any union reps on hand to help with this one......
Our office has recently started the summer lapsing. I am a non driver, use my own personal bike to cycle to work which is locked up at the office whilst I do my delivery from a trolley.
No problem!!
The walk which was chosen for lapsing today was the best part of a mile away from my own delivery, knowing this I decided to use a Royal Mail bike to deliver absorbtion after I had finished delivering my walk.
I arrived back at the office to do my lapsing after my delivery this afternoon only to find five Royal Mail bikes all pad locked with no keys to be found & the manager doesnt know where they are  Just to point out I am not allocated a RM bike.
I asked him if I had to walk there & back & he repiled Urmmmmm a good one & a half miles to & from delivery office....When just at that point one of my driving collegues arrived back into the office & very kindly drove me out in a van, had he add not drove back at that point I am pretty sure the manager would have asked me to walk it?
My day off tomoz so I asked the manager to sort this problem out for me for when I get back, he said he would (how many times have I heard that!!!).
My question is, how far do we have to walk to get to absorbtion???, what is reasonable, what are the guidelines???, if there are any plz

This will be a real test of the relationship between CWU and Royal Mail and hopefully an example of cooperation and change in culture that provides everyone with some form of benefit. The pertinent extracts from the guidelines are as follows:

• This does not affect or change any existing national agreement and all current agreements hold the field.
• To jointly produce and agree a summer resourcing plan utilising all paid for hours, including overtime, that accurately aligns resource to workload in an efficient and fair and manageable way.
• All summer resourcing plans will not be based on any predetermined lapsing/absorption plans or budget targets.
• To provide people with advanced notice of what work they will be expected to do on a daily and weekly basis over the whole summer period and to provide additional annual leave opportunities over the summer period, including opportunities to ‘burn off’ any outstanding or carried over leave.
• To jointly identify genuine opportunities where it will be possible to absorb workload including any travelling time within the scheduled duty time and not take people past their scheduled finish time.
• Weekly resourcing meetings will take place and will review the agreed summer plan and make necessary adjustments to reflect any change in traffic against that forecasted and planned. These meetings will have adequate time afforded for the CWU Representative to actively participate.
• The Fairness, Dignity and Respect guidance should be referred to and put in place where necessary. :wave :wave

So what if the rep just disagrees with the DOMs idea of a summer lapsing plan?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Then its back to the drawing board. No summer lapsing at all unless its a joint plan that's agreed by both rep and dom.

You're in a perfect position mate. You simply do not have time to do it. Your gaffer's "Urrmmm" says it all. The time it takes to get there goes against the whole point of lapsing, as it will push you past time. You wouldn't get me walking that distance, before or after.
