Justsayit email.

Do they respond to all emails? I sent them some ideas I had to improve productivity/generate revenue a couple weeks ago, not heard a peep from them.

Why? When RM employ a sales team to come up with ideas, & generate revenue streams. They might as well get rid of that section then!

Why not...just cos you don't want to doesn't mean others shouldn't. And what if his ideas led to better things for him, his choice so do it.

NO! What happens is:
You have a good idea, nobody acknowledges such.
3 months down the line, a new diktat will come from head office using your idea, and a spotty beaming graduate manager will be pictured in the Courier as 'his' initiative is taken up and applied across the company.

So the offensive reply calling you a 'retard' for having some ideas has been deleted. :nana
It is not the case that "You have a good idea, nobody acknowledges such" and a few years ago one I submitted was acknowledged and implemented nationwide. :Very Happy

Here's the email I sent anyway ...

Some ideas about improving first time delivery success.

Delivery to neighbours: (certain aspects of this depend on improving the technology we currently work with)

At the moment when a customer is not in we find a neighbour to accept the packet, then return to the original house to post a 739. We can end up covering a lot of the same ground twice, and filling out the card itself takes a minute or so. Sometimes we select a neighbour that doesn't necessarily want to be bothered, or doesn't get on with the recipient.

My idea involves customers registering their details online, including address, email and mobile number, and a group of preferred neighbours. Royal Mail then issues them a unique bar code sticker to attach to their letterbox. (Note: the sticker may not be entirely necessary if GPS is able to accurately identify the address).

Scenario 1: We come along, find they are not in, scan the barcode on the letterbox, up comes their unique details on the PDA, it tells us their preferred neighbour is 28, 26, or 25. We can then try each one in turn. Number 28 was in so we enter on the PDA the packet was accepted there. The system then sends them a notification by email/text (something which already exists for tracked items).

Scenario 2: The customer is not in, we scan the barcode, the PDA instructs us they want all items returned to delivery office. We mark the item as returned on the PDA, and take a quick photo of the item (which can be uploaded to the system at the delivery office on return to help those in the callers office find the item). Again the system sends them notification.

Scenario 3: The customer doesn't have a bar code or the system is offline, we can still use the old system.

Something that would nicely compliment this idea would be the issue of a Royal Mail style loyalty card (think Tesco Clubcard). On this card could be the same unique bar code as on the letterbox which would:

a) Identify the customer at the callers office (often people are unsure what form of ID to bring with them).
b) Enable the callers office to scan the card and find on the system what packets are waiting for them.
c) The card could be used as an incentive for customers to adopt the system by offering them a 10% discount on Royal Mail services for example. It also encourages brand loyalty.

As an extension to the idea, tracking of our vans which could be shared via a web interfaced when customers are notified they have a packet is being returned to the office, could be used so the customer can find us on the street and accept the package there and then assuming they have the correct ID (which sometimes happens already).

Some other ideas I had around creating extra business.

- At the moment with park and loop we have a whole fleet of vans sat around come mid-afternoon. The potential would be there to utilise them to offer an evening delivery service for customers, they could pay slight additional charge for it, but they could ensure their packet gets to them when it's convenient. This could apply not only to packets bought online, but items at the callers office they want redelivered.

- Offering collection of packets at the customers door. A system could be put in place whereby the customer prepays for the shipping of the item online. Prints out a shipping label which can be scanned by our PDAs, the postman then collects the item when going about his round.
