has anyone done long term research on use of trollies?.
i dont think they are as safety useful as some think
when you use them, both your hands are occupied
when its cold and wet your hands freeze up
and when you deliver to a house which has dog,you dont have bag to shield you
apart from wasting time,is there any valid reason for them?.
i think, splitting up loops is better
especially when its raining
keep loops to 30 minutes max
i know what im saying maybe unpopular
but im speaking from my experience

A colleague of mine got sciatica from using the LWT. Even my hip starts to hurt after using it for 4+ hours.

And let us not forget the loading and unloading of the thing from the van approximately 60 times a week.

There have been times recently where I have been thankful that the option to use the trolley is there (and I will be using it for The Sun) but why they ever made it mandatory rather than discretionary is beyond me.

i alternate between using a bag and the trolley where it's sensible to use them

on parts of the walk that get less mail and packets, or any blocks of flats where i'd have to leave the trolley unattended, i use a bag instead and make the loops smaller on heavier days

on longer loops with heavier mail/more packets i use the trolley. works well for streets with terraces of houses, and the trolley makes for a good bench of sorts to put the pda and the bundle down for a second while I write out a 739 card

i actually prefer using the trolley but I just can't shake the uncomfortable feeling of leaving it sitting outside when i'm in a block of flats. consider also that my walk is in quite a rough area and you have to keep your wits about you on the street. generally i never let my bags weigh more than 7 or 8kg (i think the maximum is supposed to be 11kg? i'd never even use a bag approaching this weight anyway). if i get any oversized or overweight packets then i just use the van to do them separately at the beginning or end of the walk.

*this is a LWT not a HCT

Personally think the LWT's are great. As for HCT's, can't stand using them.

You shouldn't be using it for flats anyway!

I can't use a trolley where I deliver. I don't carry overweight bags.

Too right , they are so heavy and can squash packets and mail in the back of the van, the most muscle spasms come when trying to hook a 8kg+ bag onto the 2 prongs , after that your right (or left) side hurts because you are walking with a wonk!

Yeah use your trolley, as my workmate did for over a year and ended up having to stop because pulling it had knackered his legs (can't remember exactly what was wrong but the doc told him to stop using a trolley).

Since carrying bags his leg problem has sorted itself.

It's not the carrying bags that's the problem, it's the 'one more bundle' syndrome that still affects many posties whereby they try and fit as much in a bag as possible.
