Lapsing v Quality of service

Post by Broxi51 »

Recently had a revision and now this week we are lapsing

Monday, perhaps 30% did it.
Tuesday, maybe 35%
Wednesday? We got called down to front of office and told that we
were to take lapsing and get out on delivery. No waiting for missorts.
We had been told when the revision was in planning stage that we would
need to start later because we had to connect with the missorts and have
a clear office and now 3 days into the 10 week lapsing season and the missorts
are brushed under the carpet.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

I mopped up lapsing left behind in the office the other day, aside from it being a massive waste of time dead-walking bits of the walk because you are by yourself, the sorting had a load of mistakes which I was constantly having to look out for. The amount of OT I claimed for it, they must have only saved 3hrs off employing somebody to do the duty??

And that's what happens every time. It doesn't work as waiting for mis-sorts, more so when they're due to come from different offices and they tell you they want them ALL cleared, and this will always delay your leaving time and it knocks on to delivery time etc.

if you happen to believe that the dom is not reporting these mis sorts as failures, a little anonymous email to moya stating this might suddenly bring about a change in whats happening

Whats a "lapsing season"? We been doing it all year. Even on the busiest days where theres no chance of completing our own duties, managers are on our backs telling us to lapse. Union reps don't seem to give a dam either. Makes you wonder why we pay our subs really :arrrghhh

I do indeed. If I have time to take lapse, I will. I don't have a problem with it when theres time to do it. But theres a particular lino that doesn't take no for an answer. A few weeks back, she tried to make me and my p&l partner take lapse out on a busy day. We refused and took bags outside to load into van. Next thing you know she's ringing me asking me why we haven't taken our lapse. So basically got bullied into taking it. Needless to say we ended up extending by about half an hour. Booked it of course but thats not the point. Morale is at an all time low in my DO due to this kind of abuse of power by certain linos.

I wouldn't take lapsing out with me, if I had time I would return to the office and get it after my duty, that's what is supposed to happen. Managers try to get you to take it before so you feel pressured into doing it.

Serious question: What is actually classed as a clear office?

When I take my mis-sorts over to the sorting frames there's already loads in there but people have been allowed to leave the office even though it could be an hour before they're supposed to!

The thing with lapsing is, on a reasonably busy day, you can still complete both walks and lapse if you are out of the office before 9.30. The problem is, when I come into work, alot of walks haven't been prepped to completion. In alot of instances, none of the IPS mail and packets have been chucked out. So it can take you a good hour or so to finish prepping and bundle up. So by the time you've done all that, theres not enough time left in the day for you to lapse. With even more full timers leaving on VR in the next few weeks, its only going to get worse. Less people in early to chuck walks out = getting out the office later and later. Just one of the many holes RM is digging itself in my opinion :Applause

Who gets out at 9.30 am nowadays?
10.30am is about the earliest I have ever got out(even on so called light days) once I have had my break(20 mins)..got my PDA and checked my van, signed for my specials plus loaded up and of course cleared my fitting to keep the gaffer happy.

Actually I usually leave around 9:30 and I don't come in early but then I take my break on delivery and we are pre P&L.

I am on P&L too (over a year now) and have never got out at 9.30 am..saying that I think I got out at 10.15 once if my memory serves me right, but usually it's around 10.30 and I start delivering around 10.45/10.50 assuming all goes well.
