PPI mail..............it's getting out of hand!

Post by 2791dean »

The amount of PPI mail being dropped into post offices and sub post offices is increasing rapidly, to the point where it's pretty much companies dropping there days work into counters at 5pm and after! This isn't just the busy monday effect as we already get that on the 3.30 wave aswell, some of the mail is from customers who already have a collection earlier in the day and then carry on and drop the rest at counters but some is getting more and more dodgy looking! people turning up with vehicles stacked with mail, dropping several bags and then moving to the next post office to drop several more! On some days were getting to the point of saturation and having to decide what to take as there is litterally no more room in the vehicle! This is unfair on later pick ups as you may have to leave some of there items behind because of this! :thumbdown

This was yesterday and this was my first post office counter pick up of the 5.30 pm wave.......

The top pic was just the PPI mail from one small post office counter! 30+ bags without his own mail and specials! You can see in the second pic it's half a van full or more once his mail and specials are in..... with 2 other offices to collect and 16 more boxes you can see it isn't going to be an easy fit!..... we really need to adddress this problem because it's not only costing money ( because I'm betting half of this isn't being paid for!) but it's costing time, it's ok for customer services to tell customers "yes it's fine to drop your ppi mail in at any post office" but they don't have to collect it! they don't see how much of this stuff is coming through the system! Surely if we can't provide PPI customers with a collection then they shouldn't be allowed to run it ? Or is Royal Mail being that greedy just looking at the figures side of things and not the losses they are incurring from fraudulently posted mail!

And please don't answer..... "send it into revenue" as it's impossible to do within our time limits and the fact that our DO manager is reluctant to pay overtime to do these things makes us reluctant to do them! Remember come Xmas pressure period this will only get worse even with reliefs in place most of these guys are posting from 5pm onward!!!

The rules are that if there is no PPI paperwork with the PPI - you do not accept it. That's in the customer's T&C's for having the privlidge and discounts of PPI mail. You've only got to refuse it once for the customer not to try it on again! As for when you get it back to the DO, just stick it in a Red X york and let Revenue Protection deal with it from there. That will solve any concerns about the customer getting free post!

We work from a small delivery office and the manager doesn't want big high top vehicles as our vehicle are used in the mornings for delivery purposes and wouldn't make sense to have larger vehicles for this!

It's not up to us to judge on paperwork when it is collected from a post office counter! we are only responsible for making sure the businesses we collect from have paperwork and if not we refuse to accept! We don't take our mail back to our own DO we take direct to mail centre and as for putting it on red cross yorks we'd love to but revenue never kept that part of the deal on placing red cross yorks out on the stage so we end up having to run it through to revenue ourselves when items are put on check! so doing this with 30 or so bags (3 - 4 yorks full) is time consuming and we simply don't have the time to do it within our scheduled collection!

The terms and conditions of meter mail aswell are for this NOT to be placed in normal post boxes but this is another issue we are faced with and we're not talking several or so letters here we're talking half a box full of unpouched mail and pouches jamming up normal boxes because people shove them in there on there way home from work! We get fined for our misdemenors I think it's time the customer got fined for theres or have the privilidge of cheaper mail taken away !

I quite agree in one way but when a lot is possibly fraudulent mail and not being correctly paid for then it's coming out of the company pocket and eventually out of ours!

Not if it's unmeasured work 383, we are always stating that the figures are wrong, the forcasts must be out etc, this mail traffic is costing us all dear, as if there is no record of it going thru our system no one gets paid for it. simples

I pulled up outside one of the Post Offices on my route to do a collection last week and someone was unloading PPI sacks out of a 4x4 to take into the Post Office. When he saw me he started to carry them over to my van and said "this'll save me carting this lot inside" to which I told him I wasn't touching it, he had to take it into Post Office an present it to the counter staff. He got very upset about it but he took it inside after saying he was going to complain etc etc. Anyway I got back to the Mail Centre and told the manager about it and he wasn't to happy so he loaded it all onto a York and took it into Revenue.

All PPI presented to Post Office counters should go to revenue protection anyway.

That'd be fine if revenue stuck to the agreement of putting red cross yorks out on the stage for us to put this stuff on but that seems to have gone by the wayside! And we don't have time with several yorks of the stuff to deal with! And to be honest I don't recall anything being said to us as drivers that post office counter ppi should go to revenue? If that's the car the above mentioned agreement should come into force!

Some of the sub post offices I collect from got so fed up of it as they used to use them to post it and now just drop it off so they get nothing for it they refuse to take it.Ive had people waiting outside with sacks asking me to take them as the po wouldn't. I obviously politely refuse and tell them where the office is and tell them to take it themselves.

When the scanning of PPI came in - mandatory paperwork for collections i think they called it - I went on a days training course for it and that's what we were told

If you can't be arsed to take the mail to RP office just put it in a separate york and put a RP york card on it and leave it on the collections dock

Nothing to do with not being arsed about it! With the amount of ppi we have to deal with lately we just don't have the time to deal with it hence why revenue should put out the yorks as part of the agreement! There's no point in is just sticking it on a York at the mail Centre as it will just get swallowed up with the rest of the work, there needs to be a designated area for this as post what was agreed! .......... As for training/meeting we've never had anything about it other than the plan to have revenue leave yorks out for any ppi customers or post office counters that are put on check. ..... which to this day has never been done and we end up having to run them into revenue ourselves!
