Compulsory 'Delivery to Neighbour'?

Anyone heard that the business is pushing for this? Putting aside the practicalities of this notion, is the CWU moving away from its stance that delivery to neighbour is entirely at the discretion of the OPG? If not, some clarity would be useful...

Okay - if they do that then they will have to take the consequences. At the moment it is at the OPG's discretion, so if we have time no problem, and if we go over because of it then the management cannot argue and have to pay for us doing as RM wish us to do. If they institute "forced" attempts for every address which may entail longer sidesteps in search of a neighbour then they have to allow returned deliveries at the end of the shift if we do not want to go over. There is no way that anyone can project a finish time for booking O/T purposes if they HAVE to deliver every parcel and packet !!!

Personally I dont deliver to neighbour the following.

Specials ( of course )
Recorded / Signed for
Tracked of any kind. ( I will however leave in a safe place any tracked item that states where to leave it, after I have taken a picture of the label to show this )

normal packets I will try a neighbour if it is close and I am still within my daily hours.

if RM state that we do have to deliver to a neighbour I will want a signed document stating that I have to deliver to a neighbour and that all blame and consequence's are taken from me if said parcel(s) go missing.

that will never happen, so I will stick with my principals above.

I'm old school, if there's no answer it's 739'd and goes back. Not putting my job at risk by leaving an item with a neighbour who can deny ever getting it!

So what about those people who have the RM stickers on their doors (like me) who don't want their mail left with neighbours, or to accept their neighbours mail?

Did you read the courier international items not to be delivered to neighbours as well as special deliver items

We had a WTLL about this about 3 weeks ago. RM is comparing our stats about returned tracked items to the other courier companies. The manager was particular about us trying neighbours for tracked items because we are at close to 90 percent whereas the others (cowboys) are slightly above.

It is a joke! Close to 90% returns is actually very good given the number of tracked items we have to deliver as well as letters; as postmen and postwomen.

RM needs to stop comparing us to other Couriers that simply deliver packets and most of them are only paid for actually delivering the damn things; so they put/chuck them anywhere, and are prepared try a few neighbours in order to get paid.

The gist was that customers are complaining about having to go to the delivery depot to collect their items. there was me thinking that the biggest advantage of using Royal Mail is that you can get a few redeliveries, can pick up at the local Post Office or go to the local* delivery office.

* Yes, some local delivery offices might be a bit of a journey but it is nothing compared to the likes of UPS, DHL, Yodel and so on. Some do not even have collections points in the same county as where they deliver to to.

** Yes, there are other collection points being touted by the Couriers such as supermarkets and other points (?) but very few people do not have local PO or delivery office nearby...

its a pity we charge customers for this though, should be doing it free, not £1.50 a time

It is definitely not compulsory. I try and do it on a town round but never attempt it on a rural as the gaps between farms are too far. Don't forget to book overtime if you go over your time because you are trying to deliver too many parcels.

It will never be compulsory but if it was how can they prove you haven't tried a neighbour? Its not manageable which is why its at our discretion.

Heard today from a couple of sources that this is going to be the way forward... not sure if it's the area director flexing his muscles in an attempt to get more parcels delivered first time so he can get a pat on the head from Moya...

All that will happen is they'll end up with more and larger cut-offs up and down the country

What RM forget is, we unlike other companies may have a parcel for a house every day, now neighbours don't mind accepting the odd parcel for their neighbours, but soon get pissed off if you knock on their door every day with some one else's parcels. RM just have to remember we are different to other delivery companies. Trust OPG to do the right thing, instead of treating us like kids and trying to conduct/sack us for just doing our jobs.

Clearly not practical for a host of reasons, many put up on here... this crass 'idea' needs nipping in the bud...
