Managers performing sorting duties

Is there any guideline to how long a manager is allowed to perform sorting duties on each shift?.We have a on going situation at our mail center where flat and letter sorters are being moved on to packet/parcel sorting during the shift.There is no problem with this but when they are moved a manager will jump into their position and carry on sorting sometimes for most of the shift.I always though it was 10 minutes maxim per shift and only is office was going to fail to clear.
Can anybody clear this up

Managers aren't supposed to do any sorting

In my place the managers do sorting/trucking it is a normal sight. These are the time.

So if the managers have spare capacity and have time to do OPG work, maybe they could lapse another office, think of how many more managers they could get rid of, if managers covered other offices, they could even afford to employ a few more OPGs, or even better demote them to OPGs.

To protect USO a manager will do what ever task Necessary

A manager should only be stepping in to OPG work of the likelihood of a mail failure

They do it simply to cover up the fact too many hours have been took out the indoor. Its happening everywhere. Get your rep to mention it to the dom that they have seen it and logged it down. If it carries on after this get your rep to put it thorough the ir framework. I can assure you the DSM I have dealt with in the past isn't happy when they hear they are paying managers to do OPG work.

You see it occasionally are our place as well. But never to the extent that a manager winds up doing the work an OPG could have done for a 4-or-8-hour overtime shift.

Well apparently at my old office the managers still do sorting, prepping deliveries and doing cut offs. When I was there it wasn't unusual for managers and the DOM to do two compleat deliveries a day, and prep three or four complete deliveries or more, including managers prepping the lapsing.

We have about five line managers at our office. Sorting and walk prepping is a daily job for them. We could get away with two or three of them, but due to poor staffing levels, they are needed for this work, as well as the usual horsesh!t. The fact that they shouldn't be doing it means nothing to our DOM; as does early starters. This, refusal of OT payments and all round piss-poor attitudes are the norm. It's all about their bonuses now.

If any of our managers was to try their hand at sorting word would very quickly spread round the office.
A big crowd would gather to witness the event, mobile phone cameras would be clicking.
Everyone would stop what they were doing

Is the sick absence ,staff shortage , bad all over the uk ? Bad in our place

staff shortage bad so many duties have gone under evr. managers not allowed to bring staff in on overtime. clearance failures are happening regularly never see mail center manager on our shift seems out of touch with his office.the more hours they can lapse the happy he is.

I've never seen so much will-full delay. Makes me ashamed to be a mailman.
