Insured to be dropped off to deliver by manager in their car

In our office their arent enough vans to cover loops which cant be completed, im on semi light duties which is another story, but at the moment i am being dropped out on these loops in a private vehicle of a manager (graduate) and i was just wondering if i was covered if their was an accident, I know that the mail is not safeguarded or insured and is illegal but thats not y worry, my worry is that if this person crashed and i was injured, would i be covered. The dom and all the line managers all use their cars for delivery and for conveying me out. Our main union rep is sick long term so i cant ask him, and i dont want to put even more of a target on my head by confronting them directly unless i know the facts.

no he will not have business insurance on private vehicle
i would suggest an anon call to traffic cops that some are driving illegally from office

It is a bit of a grey area. Most managers will have business use cover as this is a requirement for claiming travel expenses for going to other offices, meetings etc. This type of cover would be sufficient for transporting colleagues about but not for doing deliveries as this would require commercial use cover. If you were to be injured in an accident and the managers insurance did not cover it you could just pursue RM for damages anyway.

Quite simply if you are a passenger in his private car(or anyone's car at all) you are definitely covered by their insurance policy if they have one in place regardless of what type of insurance they have in place under third party liability.

Whether he has invalidated his own insurance by carrying you as a passenger is a different matter entirely, if he has he is not covered by his insurance and is thus driving illegally
