question about being duty holder

My question is as a duty holder do you have any protection against being moved every day to
Other areas, can u say no. Am a part timer and am not sure if it's because of work volume and I don't mind sometimes,
But everyday. Theirs at least 7 to 10 reserves and folk on 3 month contracts in my area, surely they should be first?.

Same happens in my office, some people are never moved from their duty other people hardly ever do their own duty.

i got 14 years in and still get moved, got a rural round but keep getting moved to another rural as they wont train anyone else................OPERATIONAL NEEDS my DOM says, i reply operational need TRAIN SOME ONE

Theoretically the duties belong to RM and they have allocated a particular duty to you which you have signed for and they should attempt to allocate you your signed duty whenever possible but reserve the right as your DOM has stated to move you to cover another duty under the standard response of operational needs.
The question you should be enquiring is how do they cover your signed duty when you are moved is this done by lapsing and therefore walk absorbing and overtime is necessary and what is the situation with the reserves.
If your unit is short staffed then the possibility of part timers receiving additional hours.
If the excuse is given as there is no one trained to cover the rural route then with union assistance this should be investigated as management are forever insisting that working for RM you can develop your skills and development.

Just be an awkward git and they won't send you gain. They can send you to another office but you dot have to drive their, you're fully entitled to turn up to your own office at your start time and expect a lift or for Royal Mail to make your travel arrangments, you're also entitled to be back at the office thy sent you to in plenty of time to get back to your own office for your finish time. Excersize this right and I bet you that they pick other people to send in future and you'll get to do your duty much more.

The real reason this happens is because the manager has mis-spent his training budget and is trying to hide his mistake through improper resourcing.

Just found out they have given work to another office to save them jobs so this

Do you realise if your signed duty has gone to another office you can follow this duty if this is convenient for you.
Can't understand why your union rep has allowed this to happen.

will try and ask the union rep about that as it sounds reasonable, my issue was not with moving just that the PT reserves should go 1st b4 any duty holders get
