The drift to the right of our society, the increase in p/t jobs and zero hour contracts and the deliberate maintenance of a less then full employment economy have
all weakened the trade union movement.
Social media, increased automation and the liberalisation of the postal market have changed and damaged our industry enormously and may still put an end to it.

What do you want the union to do exactly?
Our pay rises have been OK. We are still a majority full-time workforce.
The CWU is still possibly the most powerful union in the country.
That tells you a lot about the society we currently live in.

Chelsea do you believe that bullying will stop unless you in the local office makes a stance ? How will someone at area , branch or Division know if there is bullying unless it is raised ? Equally what is bullying ? Now my experience members have different views of what bullying is. ? Is bullying asking someone to absorb and work their hours ? Is it asking people to work differently ? Or is it as I see it targeting people to work harder to cover up for a failure of a revision or to absorb more ?

Now turning to the original question yes the CWU is still powerful ! Tell me another union where every office has a legal right to disagree on duty times , attendance patterns , duty proposals , resourcing and a range of other things. Tell me another union where the employer cannot take executive action unless they go through the 3 stages of the IR framework , national level talks and external mediation.

Tell me another union which at a time when letters are being lost to end to competition , when DSA has halved Royal Mails revenue that we have a legal binding agreement which stops franchising , outsourcing , that everyone will be paid the same based on hour rates , no zero hour contracts and that the CWU is involved in all changes.

So I would say we are pretty powerful and a lot more powerful then workers would be if they were not in the CWU.

Paid holidays
Sick leave
MTSF
harmonisation of part time workers
Agreements on attendance and conduct
Pay deals
Maternity terms better then most
And loads of other benefits

These were not given by Royal Mail they were fought for. Perhaps if some of you got off your knees you could start fighting to stop what you see is wrong in your office.

Well our office is still appauling and the CWU have known about it for a year. Not much has changed at all.

I know the CWU is trying to recruit TNT staff, I think there was an article about that in the Voice recently.
As for Community Union, I doubt that many TNT employees are actually members and those that are will probably be their distribution drivers, not delivery staff. If they are approved by TNT they probably aren't very effective.
