Letter Volumes Down

Post by BeamishStout »

But only 4%...Parcels/Packets static

So even if you take the worst case scenario then 4% less delivery points on a daily basis. 4% of 5 hours is 12 mins. Now you can see why RM are upping the ante on summer lapsing/absorption. Mon/Tue will be going from 20 mins to 30. Wednesday onwards they are seeking 20 mins per day (from 0 mins last year).

There is a huge assumption in this absorption - that 4% less letter volumes translates into 4% less delivery points. Big assumption IMO. But I wonder if the powers that be had forgotten all about D2D....They still need to be delivered (even if it a single item).

The figures just don't add up.

One figure will be staying the same however - my finishing time :wave

Same with any job, The white collers get more money for making the workers do more.

They also dont take into account, that although there may be a few more gaps with no letters, those house still get parcels and as you mentioned D2D's, so calls are not down as much as they think.

Just because they say there's a 4% drop in letters doesn't mean we got to 4% less houses. If I went to a house last year with 10 letters a day but now I go there with 8 letters a day does that mean that it takes me less time to deliver to that house? so I don't understand how they can say because the mail volume is down you have time to lapse.

1 letter or 10 letters , it's still 99% of calls every day. Only this year packets are up so we're spending more time delivering them and fiddling with a pda - don't they realise we only have enough time in the day to quickly pop a letter (or 10) into 99% of the houses. duhh!! :d'oh!
Why are lino's paid full-time ??

If we accept your premise that the house that had 10 letters a day now has 8, then the house that had 1 probably now has none. The time taken to prep and deliver a workload reduced by 4%, or whatever the actual figure, is likely to reduce by a similar figure.
Would you be happy to see your salary reduced by 4%, or more, over the summer months? No, me neither.

Lapsing, or a similar strategy, is designed to offset or slow the rate of decline in revenue by a reduction in costs.

All these reductions in costs by lapsing though are costing rm more in o/t , sick pay , ihr payoffs and customers (from mistakes) I'm sure there are far more ways to cut costs in this company (hint: get rid of managers and surplus indoor staff)

A reduction in mail = less indoor time = more scope for outdoor lapsing.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

their figures are false. I count my trays most days and I'm still getting the same volume I was 4 years ago. actually there is more if d2ds are taken into account. last night on sky news a manager from uk mail stated that 7 yrs ago they were sending out 10 million items of mail through us. today they are sending out 20 million. double. don't believe their crap.

What they mean is our collected traffic is down by 4% but DSA is impinging on our profit margins as they expand their reach into our network! IE we the business are losing work to TNT where they deliver and we do not collect the mail in the first place for most areas. But we waste millions of pounds on World Class Mail for job's for the boys and girls up and down the country why is this happening when we cannot lapse anymore than we can do! I would fire the lot on WCM tomorrow if I was in charge a job which has no productivity is a fortune saved MOYA should at least look at cost cutting this failed incentive for the feckless and fornicators to avoid work!

I still feel eventually, agreement or not, we will be pushed in to refusing to handle access mail. The longer this action is avoided, the more established the non-USO firms will become. Refusing access mail will demonstrate the absurdity of cherry-picking and trying to compete with one hand tied behind our backs.

But it does take less time, in your example you have saved time...
Placing those letters in the walk frame (bigger saving if they were in the manual, rather than the sequenced)
The time you spend outside the previous address, filtering mail while standing still, ready for this address now has 2 less letters

However, in my experience, most OPGs are oblivious to the second time saver above. They prefer to try and gain some time on delivery, risking a trip, while filtering mail for the next address while on the move.

Maybe my walk is special, but I notice that the number of houses with no letters but have an attendence call parcel increases big time in the summer. So as a prompt, I turn over the first letter in the slot after the address. We have been told not to put p739s in the actual address' frame slot as a prompt. Guess the fun and games when lino wants to count call rates, not taking account of parcels for places with no letters (not to mention they never count "double slots" properly, they just treat each slot as one delivery point, not so clever when many walks have ~25-40% double slotting frames to make each frame the same size regardless).

It was only a few weeks ago that plenty of people on here were predicting that WCM was dead anyway. It doesn't seem to be happening. Moya and Sue Whalley like WCM.

More feckless and one more fornicator job's for the workshy if they want more productivity maybe the should roll their sleeves up and get some work done on the frontline but I doubt it would happen!
