Sunday Working

On the news this morning, collection of Royal Mail parcels on Sundays, Parcelforce delivering on Sundays and Royal Mail considering deliveries on Sundays.
At what rate of pay, and with the agreement of the CWU ?

RM have already started to collect Tracked from the big senders. Like it or not Sunday delivery is going to happen at some point

Dave Ward said he welcomes this great news. I wonder how many Sundays he will work or even a Saturday. Double bubble in most firms for a Sunday.

I was surprised to hear this on the news this morning while having breakfast. Extra pay for working Sundays?

In most industries now sunday is a normal day of working. Working a Bank Holiday now only attracts a day in lieu in the retail sector as a rule. Five days out of seven so i can see no justification for extra hourly pay rate for sunday working. I am sure future contracts of employment will now have this clause. People need to get out of this Royal Mail Bubble and see what it is like to be employed in the real world

I think it will only be packets and parcels, remember we keep being told letters are dropping off.

I work a 7 hour, 48 minute shift on Sundays. My allowance is currently £40.23

Do you honestly think Royal Mail are going to pay £40 premium to staff who will work on a sunday as a normal working day? Any sunday premium will be kept for the time being as that will have been agreed betwen the employer and Trade Union. If this sunday working was then rolled out on a national basis as a normal working day, that premium will have to stop. It will simply not be cost effective to have staff working on a sunday as a normal day and pay the current sunday premium as well

Yes,because its been the case for years in a lot of MC across the country.You obviously don't know anything about Sunday working,or you would have known that...

From what I saw on BBC news, Sunday delivery of parcels will be trialled in London, and 70 of the busiest DOs will be open for collection of mail. I would think there will be enough volunteers to do this. In Inner London the Sunday hourly rate was £10.66 iirc, and there was never a shortage of people in MCs who needed some extra money.
As long as it's not compulsory I would have thought it was ok, and good for the public to be able to receive their parcels when they are in.

Unless they are going to allocate customers timeslots there's just as much chance the customer will be asleep/working or just generally not in as any other day. Opening the callers office on a Sunday would probably be more helpful to customers
