No room for conscientiousness in RM anymore?

Post by Mezza »

A colleague who is indoor based has had his duty messed up by the DOM after a personality clash. The short story is that he now has a 1.30hour delivery added to his already full duty.
A grievance process was launched by my mate and resulted after Level 3, in him being fobbed off with excuses about office budgets etc.

Anyways, part of his duty has always been to process the surcharges.
Since the addition of the delivery some 4 months ago he has regularly been unable to complete his indoor tasks and has to prioritise what he has time to do on a daily basis. The surcharges are often not done.
At the end of each day he emails the DOM and informs him of what he has been unable to complete.
The surcharges haven't been touched this week and there are now about 400 waiting to be processed.

Yet on his day off or when he's on leave his cover is often paid overtime to go out on delivery and leave even further work for him to catch up with when he returns to work.
Add to that the fact that people are finishing their deliveries and going home up to 4 hours before he does, when there is work that could be given to them.
So, getting more and more frustrated with the situation he rang the whistleblower line and his complaint was passed to IB, he was told they would contact him.
he rang them today as nobody had phoned and was told that it cannot be classed as willfull delay either on his or the DOM's part and is not considered important enough to investigate and that he should file a grievance if he is still not happy.
Been there done that, got nowhere.

So having a pride in your work and being conscientious is no longer required or appreciated at RM.

I'm sure some will say sod it. let it pile up, not your problem but is that really the only answer?

Go even higher.. get all the relevant documentation copied, if that's possible, and send that with the grievance to the very top and tell them why this has been sent to them.
I bet the S.H.1.T. will hit the fan then.

I remember a similar story from a few years ago.. but to do with an issue over someone and their holiday/pay (?) and they sent their complaint right to the top. They came down from Head Office asking "What the **** was going on" - my words not theirs - in that particular office and to sort the issue out to the good of all concerned.
The same "letter/email" was posted on here, but removed, as it could be construed as being "inflamatory". It did the job though. The message got through and the DOM was taken to task over the issue from what I heard later.
