latest Mount Pleasant Bulletin 7/5/14
Hello there, here is the latest bulletin from Mount Pleasant:
(any comments and crtiticsm etc welcome)
ANOTHER OF THEIR “LANDMARK DEALS”!
So, 3,000 Crown Post Office workmates took 15 days strike against 70 Offices closing and the loss of jobs, for union officials to present them with a small pay rise (3.9%, then strings attached to 3.4% over the next 2 years - 1% increments as cost-cuts are met!) +a bribe to vote “yes”, dependent on: 70 (or more) Crown Offices closing and the loss of jobs! And the officials are bragging about it! POL delegates at CWU conference tried, but failed, to win a “no confidence” vote in Andy Furey, the responsible CWU negotiator. At least they got heard. The struggle against official sell-outs continues...
GIVE THEM A GONG
According to the two women who act for RM’s brain-Washing Time Show (WTS), the "Have Your Say" survey results are a great success, 85% filled it in and an amazing 75% just love to work in RM! These look just like the results they gave us last time, and the time before.... Are they recycling the results year after year? At least they’re being green...
DOING SOME SUMS...
Everyone got a survey form and had 20 mins to fill it in so the returns should have been 100%... So what happened to the other 15%? Too rude to speak about? Added to the 25% who don’t like working for RM that makes 35-ish% “unhappies”...
IT’S BLEEDING AWFUL!
In fact they asked what people think of the working environment and if the jobs suited them. But we know we put under “comments” that this place is like a horror movie and all they need to do is to come down to the floor for a few minutes to see their “World Class Mail” - and their hair will stand on end...
WHO’S THE FOOL?
Funny how processing managers always tell us that the percentage of mail cleared is close to 100%, when we all know this is complete BS from start to finish. But if we say to them, come on, we know you’re having us on, they tell us no, we are deadly serious! Well, they’re treating us as if we’re idiots. Which leaves us no choice but to treat them exactly the same way.
TEACH THEM THE A-B-C
For instance, next time a manager comes to you and says he wants to do "a", the best thing to do is to ask him if he is really sure… and perhaps he would like to do "b" instead, and keep going until you've used the whole alphabet!
GOING HOME IS WHAT WE WANT
Ok, we’ve managed to go early a few nights on Processing Lates, but mostly it’s (too) busy. So there are still requests from managers to stay late - in exchange for coming in later the next day. That’s no good. If the manager said we could go home an hour early tomorrow, however, we’d say “now you’re talking!"
OUR LETTER TO THE MANAGER
And what’s more, if we’ve finished with our own Processing jobs - tipping or wherever - managers always send us to work in Letters - because according to them it’s Letters which counts most. But we shouldn’t have to! (Of course that’s the b***dy flexing “Agreement”... But never mind.) When we're done with our jobs, ta ta! If they want people on Letters, they can recruit more hands - or give part-timers full-time.
WE HAD A FIT!!
Instead of a re-sign, Romec cleaners had a re-fit. They conned us. What’s more the jobs are all overloaded. WE NEED MORE HANDS! But they’ve now “trained” us all on those machines, to get their “gold”!! Yet how can a workplace full of dust-generating paper - from all over the world, be “dust-free”? And if they want “gold standard” toilets, then put a cleaner on duty 24 hours a day, in each one (yes, each toilet!!). TBH, we wouldn’t put it past these manager-geniuses (genii?) to try to “get gold” by charging everyone a nugget to spend a penny...
SANITY TEST
After the good response to our “Golden Rules” we have some more advice for Romec bosses: why not try going back to acting/talking “normal”? Whatever happened to the idea of just making a place nice and clean and having the means to do it?
KEEPING US IN SUSPENSE?
The new boss’s shirt isn’t like the old boss’s shirt but so far, it’s the quiet (with flowers...) before the storm?
FORGETTING ABOUT RM’S DIRTY LINEN?
We see from the CWU website there’s a campaign against "zero-hours" contracts and for “living” wages - partly in response to the Ts&Cs which TNT imposes. They’re also trying to unionise workers in such companies. A good thing. But what about the temps being employed on deliveries and driving - on virtual zero-hours contracts, in RM??? And what about part-timers here who don’t take home a living wage?
SINGING TOGETHER - BUT THAT’S NOT NEW
We also see in Courier, how bosses and union officials are joining in a chorus of scare-mongering over the “end of the universal service” and cherry-picking of deliveries, by competitors. Are they preparing us for (more) sacrifices “in the name of RM’s interests against competitors”? What next?

The May WF will be on sale from Wednesday evening (30p).

Anna, why haven't you mentioned your brand spanking new nursery opened by most and co at mount pleasant.
My office and I`m sure most others don`t have this luxury.
Your bulletin is frankly boring nitpicking and focuses on nothing but negatives.
Why Don`t you put a stop to Jason Comptons boring dulcit tones on RMTV?
Mount pleasant is not representative of royal mail as a whole.

And it's subsidised too - which comes out of all our pockets, much like the subsidised canteens and gyms - whereas we're lucky if the coffee machine works.red666bear wrote:Moya and co. Typo error.

Are mp letter sorters still sorting 3-5 at a bay after 1800, or is there more room and more sorting space now that the building works are finished?

Job and knock has gone (pay&mod or BT2010?) and if anything I'd expect them if they were looking any a failure on a given shift to sacrifice the letters and flats to ensure that packets clearPhilthyPhil wrote:What a load of BSanna wrote: OUR LETTER TO THE MANAGER

Re: latest Mount Pleasant Bulletin 7/5/14
They do send everyone they can to the letters and flats after 2100. There are five people to one frame. 3 seated and two standing behind them. A few years back managers would say it was against H&S to work more than one to a frame but now it seems anything goes. They claim it is just 'temporary' while building works are being done but it's been going on for years.SpacePhoenix wrote:Job and knock has gone (pay&mod or BT2010?) and if anything I'd expect them if they were looking any a failure on a given shift to sacrifice the letters and flats to ensure that packets clearPhilthyPhil wrote:What a load of BSanna wrote: OUR LETTER TO THE MANAGER

Re: latest Mount Pleasant Bulletin 7/5/14
Sorry
you find it boring (stupid?) and nitpicking redbear and others. Sure subsidised workplace creche is pretty unique: union reps and parents fought to keep it open.
Mount used to be biggest sorting office in Europe (or so they said) with EC1-4 DO, so with 2,000 plus workers it was going to have facilities other offices didn't have. Many fought for... RM wanted to close it but 3 years ago decided to keep it (only for time being! property values!) and merged in closed East London/9 Elms MCs and Rathbone Place DO, prev also Almeida St. SO still big, newly refurbished. Sure, not so typical. But all RM, Romec, workers...same interests?!

So would it not be more equal to close that down and spread the largesse over the whole workforce with child care issues - unity is strength but apparently only when it suits.anna wrote:Sorryyou find it boring (stupid?) and nitpicking redbear and others.
