Letter to Branches No:266/14 Together for Growth
Letter to Branches
No:266/14
28th April 2014
To: All Branches with Postal Members
Dear Colleague
Together for Growth
We are pleased to announce the launch of Together for Growth, a brand new training programme to support the principles of the Agenda for Growth, Stability and Long Term Success Agreement.
The programme is a significant investment in the individuals who attend and subsequently, the people who they work with. Participants can expect to learn new skills that will help to create a fairer, more responsive and respectful culture throughout the organisation. It will help us improve working relationships, industrial/employee relations and better understand the competitive environment we are now working in and what we need to jointly do to counter this.
Together for Growth consists of three one day events with each event a few weeks apart to enable participants to practice and embed what they have learnt before attending the next session.
Building on our new Industrial Relations Procedures, a key objective is to enable managers and union representatives to resolve issues more quickly by agreeing solutions locally. Therefore, the principle is, and every effort will be made, to ensure that managers and reps attend the same event together to enable the experience to facilitate better and more trusting relationships.
Whilst aimed at front line managers and union representatives, such an important change in approach needs to be reflected throughout the business by all. Therefore, all 9000 operational managers and union representatives will be invited to attend sessions from June 2014 onwards. Kick-off launch events will start in May.
Further information will be sent out in due course.
Yours sincerely
Dave Ward

This kind of thing happens after every ballot and agreement and then a few weeks later it's back to the status quo.

Waste of time and money, budget cuts equals management bully tactics to meet their bonuses.RTP wrote:This kind of thing happens after every ballot and agreement and then a few weeks later it's back to the status quo.

No: 291/14
6th May 2014
To: All Branches with Postal Members
Dear Colleague
TOGETHER FOR GROWTH (TFG)
CWU Trained Hosts for Joint Training Programme
Branches would be aware that in line with the initiatives agreed in Agenda for Growth national agreement to support the cultural change, CWU and Royal Mail are working on a joint training programme ‘Together for Growth’ (TFG). A letter to Branches (LTB 266/14) was issued from the department on Monday 28 April 2014 to provide update to our branches.
TFG is a three days joint training programme designed for 9000 frontline managers and CWU representatives to attend with their local interface.
TFG training programme is nearing to its rollout stage which is planned to commence in the middle of June. In order to ensure a smooth rollout; the CWU and Royal Mail are committed to align a number of ‘Trained training hosts’, from all areas of the country to help facilitate the training programme in line with our jointly intended objectives.
The Job Descriptions of ‘trained host’ is attached.
Branches are instructed to encourage suitable individuals to take part in this crucial role and forward their names to DGSP department by 21 May 2014.
Any enquiries on the content of the above LTB should be addressed to the Deputy General Secretary (P).
Yours sincerely

LTB369/14 Together For Growth Training Programme - Request for CWU Hosts
No: 369/14
5th June 2014
To: All Branches with Postal Members
Dear Colleague
Together For Growth Training Programme – Request for CWU Hosts
We wrote on the 6th May requesting Branches to nominate CWU Representatives as a host to support the national roll out of the Together for Growth Training Programme. Although there was significant interest, we still need more nominees to meet the required number.
Part of the earlier communication included an attachment that set out the role of the host. Unfortunately, it has only just come to our attention, that this was an error and was in fact an earlier managerial draft, when a more in depth role for the host position was being considered. Since then we have spoken further to Royal Mail and the external training provider and we have agreed a more simplified role. As a result the purpose of this LTB is twofold:
Firstly, to ask branches that have not already done so, to nominate further CWU Representatives for the role of host.
Secondly, to confirm that the attachment to the initial communication explaining the role of a host should be disregarded. Instead the role is more straightforward and comprises of the following:
- To meet and greet participants and ensure a visible CWU presence throughout the day.
- To make some opening remarks about CWU’s involvement in developing the programme and generally set the scene. (A short brief will be provided).
- To offer any necessary support to the external training providers.
- To work with the Royal Mail host and the external providers ensuring that participants have an enjoyable and worthwhile learning experience.
- To deal with any general enquiries about the overall arrangements for the programme.
- To demonstrate support for the objectives of the Agenda for Growth Agreement and the need to improve relationships and deliver cultural change.
- To deal with any unforeseen issues that may arise on the day.
- To provide formal feedback on the effectiveness of the overall programme.
As the programme is rolled out to the various regional venues and prior to commencing their role as a host, CWU nominees will be briefed separately on the general content of the programme and their role.
In the meantime we would ask branches to confirm any further CWU nominees for the role of host by contacting the DGS (P) Department no later than 20th June 2014.
Yours sincerely

CWU Hosts..
Are we serving the drinks?
I once worried that Royal Mail would try to introduce a Staff Association in order to undermine the union...don't know what I was worried about.

I guess this is what Dave Ward means by saying he is now embedded in Royal Mail...the term embedded was used during the Iraq War when journalists were said to be embedded with the military.I'm sure Moya Greene is hoping for similar spin in this new relationship with Industrial Action the new weapon of mass destructiondvbuk55 wrote:Another CWU Ass licking exercise then.
