Looking to find out about bank holiday entitlement!

If you are part time and contracted to work 20 hours and the week of the bank holiday monday you are given full time hours tues-sat 39 hours what are you entitled to for the bank holiday? Ive been told from our wages guy that its just tough am not entitled to anything but surely this cant be the case?

If you are part time and contracted to work 20 hours and the week of the bank holiday monday you are given full time hours tues-sat 39 hours what are you entitled to for the bank holiday? I may be wrong so get your rep involved, or even the area rep.

If you are on a 5 day week then you WILL be entitled to either 4 hours leave (1 day basically) for the bank holiday if they have made that your official day off, or if they have classed it as a working day then you should be paid it on top of any hours you work that week. In other words if you work 39hours that week (or 5 days) then you'll be due a day off in lieu as you will be working 5 days. Or if you work 4 days (or for instance 32 hours) you'll be entitled to 36 hours pay for that week as by default the BH would have been a working day.

If you work 5 days then you either get a day off in lieu, or you get paid for the BH - simples.

If you are on a less than 5 day week it gets a lot more complicated.

well thing is am contracted for 20 hours, no agreed set hours mostly 4 or 5 days a week as i usually do the overtime when i get it..

If its 4 or 5 days then its down to averages and for that you'll need the ADR or someone who is up to date on employment law and holiday entitlements it may come down to the average number of days you work over a week. Certainly the book room people won't know for sure, they aren't trained in this sort of stuff. You may even need ACAS to guide you.
