Yeah each driver and passenger has a key each per van, just used if the driver isn't back and to save you just standing there each loop.

By your posting I assume that you lost the spare key this morning so make sure that you report the loss of key when you return to work tomorrow morning to your DOM. Don't panic there has been no failure on delivering of mail which is paramount in RM eyes and at worst requires the van locks to be changed. Report this also to your union rep so he/she is aware and it is a matter of waiting to see which course management are going to take.

I lost the spare once in a pretty rough estate. The permanent postie on the round I was paired with told me to keep quiet and see if it turned up. He rang me the next week when I was on a different round to say a kind member of the public had dropped it over the van aerial when he got back to it!
Kudos to the person who returned the key, we still don't know who it was. Nobody was the wiser fortunately.

Just going off topic but still about van keys, some keys will lock different vans, but will not unlock them, is there any truth in this, told this has happen by a mechanic.

always report losing things like this, accidents happen. Yes you make get a slap on the wrist, but you will at least still have a job, if you dont report it and wrong person finds it, or someone turns it into the manager at the office and you havent reported it then you could be in much bigger trouble.

What happened?

A colleague lost spare van key a short while back, no biggy - he's done much worse!
He reported it to DOM, got a replacement within a week.
DOM also ordered a couple of keys for vans where spare wouldn't start engine.
