Loss of revenue from TNT and Amazon

There is no doubt that its big loss of revenue from TNT and Amazon for Royal Mail which would effect not only delivery side but mail centres too. My line manager think that just before or after the next Christmas there will be big changes for deliveries and many mail centres bound to shred staff. Not enogh mail items to justify so many ( extra ) staff .

I can hearing that it is/it is going to be quieter, yet each week seems to increase in volume of mail and parcels

I think the problem is that RM were relying on growth in Amazon parcels as part of the strategy to offset the decline in letters that the spread of TNT direct delivery will make worse. Now that Amazon is increasingly going it's own way and Ofcom don't seem inclined to do anything about TNT we could be in a bit of trouble.

I would imagine that a huge company like RM and a huge customer like Amazon would have a dialogue on the scope of future business strategy and they are absolutely certain to have a liaison manager appointed to them.

In some areas Amazon have set up their own distribution network.
They have an option to buy 20% of Yodel next year.
In one area they have bought 3 parcel delivery companies to cover their own work.

While you may have seen Amazon packets in your DO, the reality is Amazon are looking to bypass RM in some areas and that will have an impact on the business as a whole.

is it any surprise we lose customers when you get management saying you cant book extended on the so called quieter day which means you have to leave parcels in the office for 2 or 3 days

It's the most obvious thing but customers hate trekking miles to pick up their packages. Selling off every last building we could gave us a nice temporary bump in profits but service-wise, I bet Amazon are sick of hearing complaints about it.

In the end TNT and Amazon will kill the golden goose, as a result of their inroads to our profits, its highly likely that Rural areas will be cut down and central posting collection points will be set up to save money.

Truth is, Royal Mail are on a never-ending cost-cutting exercise, and any old excuse, no matter how dubious, will be trotted out to try and justify harming our health.
I say that, because if there's one very obvious outcome to all of Royal Mail's cost-cutting these last 12 years or more, it's the high levels of sickness amongst delivery staff these days.

I might be wrong and it may be a sign of the times but up to 9 or 10 years ago, stress was barely heard of in the delivery sector, now there are increasing numbers of postmen and women who are suffering from it in one form or another. Not necessarily overtly going sick but taking medication to alleviate the symptoms.

Of course we don't really need Amazon's parcels because the letters market is just as big as it was 12 years ago and in that time we haven't lost any business to competitors. That's all just propaganda to justify the real aim of making life worse for delivery staff.
