flexible meal relief

hi could someone tell me if it is in the new agreement,that management can introduce flexible meal reliefs.was told today that are division is going on them next week . the way they will be used is dependent on daily work load,so you could start at 7.30am and be told to take your break at 8.15.thanks

Its loads of tosh about it being in any Royal Mail agreement so the Union need to tackle it.

However, in employment law the business can tell you when to take your break as long as it follows certain rules.

One rule is that if you are expected to work more than 6 hours you are legally entitled to a statutory break of 20 minutes (paid or unpaid).

Another is that the statutory break for all those entitled to one should be somewhere in the middle of the working day, it cannot be at either end.

A little known one is that if your manager interrupts your break with a work related matter then the clock resets and your 20 minutes start again.

sorry iam only getting back now ,but cheers for your help . are dom seems convinced he has the right to call our meal break when he chooses,we are trailing something called resource to workload ,and is of the opinion that we slow down when approaching the meal break (if that makes sense).are rep is on leave ,and none of us know enough to challenge him,but he did use the term ( as per the agreement we will be using flexable meal reliefs )which got me thinking was there such an agreement .supose we will have to ride it out until rep gets back.thanks again

It seems to distress my manager when I take my break,changed his mind when I said it could lead to reactive hypoglycemia.

Just phone your area rep, once the management start something moving it's harder to derail so nip it in the bud ASAP.
