wallington mystery
this was a letter sent in to the union paper ''voice'' regarding the issues surrounding the ''wallington week''... as the sender says, annual leave is being cut to accommodate people working this system. (working 5 six day weeks, then off for the 6th week). we used to work this system before the revisions came in from 2004-2010. and we always argued it was wrong to have days deducted from annual leave. it was even raised in the courier years ago, and they defended it, saying we wer'nt being robbed of days. the reply to the senders letter is from assistant secretary bob gibson.....he says..''the wallington system has no impact on your annual leave entitlement. i have sent a copy of the national agreement to you and informed your area rep and divisional rep of the situation. they will, no doubt, be in touch''....... this has taken a few of us by surprise to say the least. we are currently working similar working patterns,,,(3 weeks on and 1 off,,and 9 day fortnites) and we are currently having 3 days deducted from our annual leave.. i must say i will be looking deeper into this and i will also be contacting bob gibson for further clarification on this. in the meantine does anyone have a copy of the agreement in regards to the wallington system or have any knowledge of it??

So from that you are working 6 days and to take those 6 days off they are only deducting 3 days from your leave entitlement? something wrong with that, they should be taking 6 days off

Re: wallington mystery
CWU HQ has examined the Wallington system and the implications of the annual leave allocation from every possible angle and come to the conclusion that none of our members are disadvantaged in terms of their rightful annual leave allocation by the changes included in the agreed national guidelines. The guidelines which are attached to this LTB contain 2 appendices that clearly demonstrate that all members whether they employ the Wallington system or the standard rotating or fixed day off system are all treated exactly the same in terms of days worked and days off.

Re: wallington mystery
When you actually take a week off on holiday, do they deduct 5 days or 6 at that time? By taking the days off you are they just front loading that? We had this debate in our d.o for years they would take 4 days off at the front but when you went on holiday they would just deduct 5 days the same as everyone else on other shifts. They stopped front loading it last year and our entitlement was the same as everyone else's BUT when we took a week off they took 6 days off.

Re: wallington mystery
why should they be taking ANY days off us?? a postie who works 39 hrs a week over 4 weeks has worked a total of 156 hrs. we work 156hrs over 3 weeks. so the fourth week is ours to take off as we've worked 39 hours MORE in 3 weeks. in other words we have banked 39 hrs in 3 weeks.zx135 wrote:daveyeff wrote:6..... totalling 52hrs each week over 3 weeks. which is 156 hrs. in other words banking your days off.we work the same hrs as a person who works 39 hrs a week over 4 weeks has worked (156 hrs). but the do not lose any days annual leave....why should we?zx135 wrote:and how many days would you have worked in that week if you had not taken annual leave for it?daveyeff wrote:3zx135 wrote:how many days holiday do they deduct from your entitlement for taking a week off?

You are not understanding what i am asking, if you take a weeks leave how many days does that use up of your holidays, and how many days would you have worked that week if you were not on leave
