why does the union not sever its links with labour and also stop funding shadowy groups like UAF and searchlight etc.

Labour opened up the business and allowed others to cherry pick, and we help tnt, uk mail etc get a foothold in the market, plus, the regulator (no doubt close labour allies) has no sympathy with us.

Well - I've torn up my membership card after Brown's stance at PM Question Time but Fook Labour - well we all know that there's no real alternative for the working class - bad as they might be.

I'm sure the TUC have given Bottler a tongue-lashing for the damage he has done to the LP in the eyes of the whole trade union movement just because - I reckon - a Tory nobody rattled him in Parliament and he couldn't handle it.

For us in the CWU this has become a more personal issue and we must look at the whole question of the political levy and IMHO it cannot be just given as a block grant to Labour but to MPs who support us - but again we shouldn't have a knee-jerk reaction to this because as a trade union we have to try and influence politicians in all sorts of ways and it is daft to throw away any negotiating tools not just now but for the future.

Email your MPs and not just labour ones and spell out the basics of why we are on strike and ask for confirmation of their support and also visible signs of that support by signing Early Day Motions or writing to the local paper or raising it in the Commons.

Let's be active and let's be positive - we are fighting for our future so let's not be distracted by sideshows.

Labour didn't open up the market - EC legislation did.

I reckon if the Tories had been in power during the last 3-5 years that Royal Mail would have been totally privatised by now and we'd all be out the door replaced by a non-unionised part-time cowed workforce. Oh and pension scheme - what pension scheme as that would have been terminated to help sell us off to the Tory Party's pals in big business.

That's why we must use a carrot and stick approach to the political levy and not just spout off without knowing the full facts and working out how best to protect and advance our position and that isn't just for the immediate battle but for the war that lies ahead until we have forced Labour to defend service levels.

quite frankly- yes, im a bnp man through an through, like many boys in my office ,but i believe in the unions, i dont agree with all my partys manifesto, but a damm more than all the rest.

funnily enough ,nor did i, nor my grandad, who fought them, still, facists were italian, nazis were germans, me im a nationalist, thats all.

Both my grandads also fought them. Pity they didn't kill a few more of them.

eu legislation may have opened the postal market for competition but thats in 2011.
the question is why did labour open up the market before that date and why havent they done anything to stop cherry-picking from the most lucrative parts of the organisation?

As a socialist I have found the militancy of my colleagues totally heartening in a world where workers are being crushed on a daily basis. But I musn't forget that despite their courage and determination, many of them are reactionary; racist, sexist, homophobic and even classist; looking down of those worse off than them.

Strike action is people power, but we still have a long way to go.
