Some people that get away with things and some that dont.
I dont know if this happens in your office but quite frankly its one rule for one and one for another.
A couple of posties who work together have a 4hr walk on a busy day,its far from the hardest walk in the office, ive done it.
Everyweek they leave pretty much all of their packets,I mean a good cage full and they always argue with the manager as they wont work a minute over their time. The thing is we finish at 2.10(inc break) and some days we get out at 9.30am which gives them more than enough time to least take the larger parcels out with them, but they dont and they always manage to stroll back to the office around 2pm.
Im writing this because yesterday was a good example. We were really quiet, hardly any mail at all and everybody got out a lot earlier than normal, around 9am. The two I mentioned got out at the same time and still left their full cage of parcels considering their walk would have them back in the office at least 1hr before the actual finish time. Me and my partner got back at 1.15pm yesterday and there were already a few back and they were prepping d2ds for the next day and some had signed out. My manager told me,just me(me being a reserve) to go back out with that cage of parcels until 2.10 and this was while people were signing out and going home. Someone overheard and stuck up for me and had a go at the manager because the two experienced posties had him wrapped around their little finger. I did go back out to save peace and when I got back at 2pm the 2posties strolled in, 5 hours after they left on a very quiet day. Something is out of order here and some are getting away with murder.

Re: Some people that get away with things and some that dont
This happens in our office too, only the posties with the easy walks get to come back and sign out at 12.00 or whenever they finish. Meanwhile they are paying overtime for walks to be covered. When we had our revision we were told everyone would be working to their time and if they were finished early they would be doing indoor work this has never happened. The worst offender is a pal of the manager (say no more). Union rep will say nothing. Two of senior posties have the longest duties and say if they had known how it was going to be they would have never took the duties that they did.

What does your rep say about it? Ours wouldn't have that, they'd be taking the same as everyone else and if they were slow timing the walk would be tested. A rep is supposed to be there for everyone, not just to protect lazy tw@ts who don't want to work and who take the piss out of their colleagues.
Btw if I were you I would have refused to go back out - a new manager tried it with me once when some people had already signed out, I refused to do it and it was him not me that was counselled by the DOM the next day.

I would never advise anyone to refuse a reasonable request.OnAFlyer wrote:

It is reasonable to ask you to work all your paid hours.
It isn't reasonable to treat people differently and that needs to be dealt with separately.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Yeah it's the same in pretty much every office. Also the attitude of their duty is easy as I've done it before... Yeah.. The argument will always be that some are faster than others.
RM is unfair and it's been that way as long as I've worked for them (Over 17 years)
You can moan, complain etc, etc and management will promise to fix things, but never will.

its bad management, and just because your manager might be a nice guy doesn't mean he is a good manager.
as long as the mail is done they usually don't give a s**t. just concentrate on yourselfs and know the rules. a lot of posties don't care for the company. they will leave large packets and they might sit still for days. cutting of packets is not the way. I would rather take the packets, whack em in a trolly an leave a loop, or 2, or 3.
we have ppl in our office. they get out at 9 everyday, come back at 2.15 everyday. busy or not. managers know whats going on but as long as they clear the office then so what (is their attitude)

My office was hammered with mail and packets today. No one took lapse out and most people went over by 30-40 mins to complete walks. Got back to the depot and noticed that a walk im on tomorrow has a full cage of packets left from today. I'm gunna have to deliver them tomorrow along with anything else that comes in tonight

Yep things will never change. All the managers care about is getting all the work done, doesnt matter by whom. I agree, why dont they look at why some van shares get back just before finish time on really quiet days? Some people fly round, get back early, and then have to go back out again, what are they trying to prove?? The management and union should also be lookin at why there's so much sickness/absence at the moment. I have dead walks on my van share, and would love to be back on a bike, but this months courier sez they were bad for our health! Yeah right, so is bloody van sharing!

Is the phrase "cull the packets" (via a lino) official/allowed/legal ???
After all "we love parcels" ...
After all "we love parcels" ...
"We're under model" - oh no we're not - stick your lapse elsewhere ...

You're contradicting yourself with those points. Had the other staff back early been asked to go out too, then I would have had no issue with it. But as you say, treating people differently isn't reasonable, so it wasn't a reasonable request to ask me to go back out and nobody else - hence I refused.clashcityrocker wrote:I would never advise anyone to refuse a reasonable request.OnAFlyer wrote:

It's never happened since then anyway, it was a couple of years ago now.

Re: Some people that get away with things and some that dont
to the OP its not YOUR job to monitor others workloads or finishing times.
Without having any other knowledge of whats really going on here, just worry about yourself, dont expect to come back to the office an hour early and think you can go home. The 2 people youre talking about are obviously working all their hours, how efficiently is questionable but its also possible they have a huge delivery and/or they re observing all proper health and safety instructions including using trollies and not walking over gardens etc etc etc.
I think you being singled out is a bigger problem, maybe the managers can rotate who goes back out with failed packets.

As a share holder you want the best return on your investment, efficiency can give a bigger return without the need of investment and cuts in jobs. He may be taking that point of view, would that be wrong, trying to save jobs and getting a better return on his investment.Postie45 wrote:to the OP its not YOUR job to monitor others workloads or finishing times.
