Whoever signs for Specials, responsibility falls on them?

I was wondering what would happen if you handed your P&L partner a special and they lost it, you having signed for it in the morning? Would it depend on them admitting liability, otherwise you get punished?

Should the driver therefore be the one to sign for them?

Say for example they didn't lock the van when they left it to pick up a bag, and somebody pinched the specials, you'd be innocent, yet it'd be nigh on impossible to prove liability.

As far as I'm aware they shouldn't be given to the passenger to put in a bag as they're not with them at all times.

I think

1, the passenger should scan the item into their possession if they're going to deliver it.
2, there should be a specials locker in the van so if it was left open they'd couldn't get nicked, any oversized specials should be done by a packets driver.

HI , I WRITE MINE DOWN WHEN I GET THEM THEN SPLIT THEM BETWEEN US IN OUR FRAME ,BUT THE DRIVE SHOULD HAVE A SMALLER LOOP TO NIP UP AND DO THE ONES YOU WONT GET TO BEFORE ONE ,THEN IF ANY ARE DOCKET LEFT WE POP THEM IN A DROP BAG IN BACK OF VAN---------- ANY HELP

Everyone should go and sign for their own specials, its bad enough being responsible for your own let alone someone else's. Why would anyone sign for something that they are not going to see again or deliver? Well dodgy and could cost you your job imo.

In our office the specials are grouped together by the pairing of the P&L rounds.

Its great in principle but your delivery is split between you and a partner so some of your specials will be delivered by them. The people in the reg locker cant be expected to know who does which loop etc (and in some cases it varies from day to day who does which loop with my partner!).

Typically, I sign for specials, take them straight out and lock them in the van, keep them separate from everything else and ensure they are delivered by my partner or myself before 1pm.
As far as management are concerned though we are both responsible for specials and ensuring mail security - that is - until something goes wrong

Highlighted above, this is so, so wrong, Mail Integrity is that the person "who signs for the item is responsible" until he/she gets a sig against said item, nothing at all to with the non-driver, the driver should have the capacity to complete all these loops with Specials and heavy&large items as per GEO- ROUTE, (smaller loops)

Any special delivered after 1pm will still be flagged by the system as a failure
