Sorry a couple of days late - here is the new Mount Pleasant bulletin! Feedback appreciated.

ADDING TO UNEMPLOYMENT?
So far, the plan RM presented to the managers’ union for its new “back office” structures (mainly security, HR, including Health and Safety) - after the net 1,300 job cuts - is unacceptable to the union reps. Even if the CMA full-timers are still busy negotiating with RM bosses. But the CMA’s bottom line is drawn pretty low down: redundancies shouldn’t be compulsory and should be well-compensated... but the job cuts are otherwise ok!?

15 MINUTES TOO MUCH
Why are processing workers being asked, almost every night, to stay 10-15 minutes after 10 pm to “tidy-up” ?? We can't see the point and are fed up with it! When we finish our shift, we’re tired and we want to go home. We have long enough shifts already. Is this anything to do with the obsessive-compulsive disorder of management, generally, or are they worried about their image, specifically, now that the axe is above their heads?

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Cleaning staff have also had enough - of Romec bosses bullying and harassing. We’ve been cleaning this place for years and we know how to do a good job. And we also know that the managers who’ve recently appeared on the scene know nothing about cleaning. We certainly don’t need these upstarts to come with their fancy words and tell us how it should be done. What are they asking for? If it’s trouble, they’ve got it.

GOLDEN RULES, NOT GOLDEN STANDARDS
Here’s an action plan for Romec managers:
1) stop shouting
2) listen to us and learn
3) watch your manners
4) PROVIDE MORE CLEANERS.

SICK AND TIRED
Why can’t the Processing and EC bosses leave us alone? When we come back to work, with all the right certification required after being sick, they still call us into the office. What’s the point of harassing us like this... unless they want us to be sick again?

IT DOESN’T YET FIT
The fit-up on Processing has been cancelled for the foreseeable future - because there’s nobody to fill the jobs vacated by people who took new jobs... So again we ask, where is the “surplus” - because that sounds like a shortage of hands to us!? And why not, to compensate for this, make part-timers who need it, up to full time??

PLEASE DON’T GO!
In fact EVR has been on some of our minds because of the deterioration in our conditions - we just can’t see things getting better, if left to RM’s tender mercies... And we don’t expect, nor want, help from the same union officials who got us here in the first place. The alternative is preparing to help ourselves, collectively across the whole building, to take back the Ts&Cs which were given away.

BITTER POL: WE WON’T SWALLOW
So Romec lost it’s contract with POL? You have to wonder why. Romec’s still 51% government-owned, but it doesn’t get what amounts to a government contract from POL? The question now is, what about Romec engineers who were told that if their jobs went in RM, they could go to POL! We still expect these jobs to be guaranteed, no matter what!

KINDLY BE MORE MISTAKEN!
What was that on our pay slips week before last? On the top line it included an extra £1,000 for everyone! But it wasn’t there on the total below... When we asked, we were told no, it wasn’t bad addition, but a mistake at the top. Well, we wish they’d make their mistakes at all levels!

FOR GOURMET MEALS EVERY DAY!
Thanks to Celebrity Masterchef, we’ve never seen the canteen so full... It took 9 chefs and 5 helper chefs, to make the “master” meals” - there was scarcely room for us punters...

ALL OVER THE SHOP
Can managers please ensure that WTS takes place at the same time every week, because as everyone knows, sleep should be regular...

DEFINITELY AFTER ALAN JOHNSON’S JOB
The ding-dong in PM’s Questions last week over the “underselling” of RM (shares now £5.50 after starting at £3.30) gave CWU leader, Billy Hayes, the chance to be “flattered” (his words!) after the PM quoted him. But he was “disappointed” that the Tory PM got his facts wrong... on Labour policy!? He goes on to say that the public schoolboys’ name-calling club, a-k-a “parliament”, is “what democracy is all about”! Help!

I work the hours Royal Mail pay me for. If they want me to stay on the premises and / or work beyond my time, they can pay me overtime. Otherwise, ta ta mate

Exactly. They have been doing this at Mount Pleasant for years, and unfortunately some (not all) staff go along with it. I would leave at my finishing time but others would stay on for up to 40 minutes. It will only get worse and become normal unless these people stand up for themselves.
