Post by gfboots »

Hi. I was dismissed last year, but won my job back on appeal.i was put on a 2 year probation.( i have another 18 months to go!)
over the last few days, ive had a couple of "minor" incidents,i made a mistake with a redirection ,the day after that the callers office couldnt find one of my "slip left" items,it turned up 3 days later!!.the day after that i left my pda on a customers doorstep, but 5 mins later i went and got it back.i also help a friend at work ie clearing down her mail and getting her packet bag .
my manager has told me today if i have one more "minor" incident ,he will suspend me . iam i a dead man walking??

No. You're not a dead man walking mate. A redirection error (no big deal) An item that went missing but then found (so not your fault) PDA, who told management this? (Regardless, no loss, no comeback) Helping somebody at work (nothing wrong with that, so long as it doesn't inpact on your duty times etc.)

The manger is abusing his position to scare you. Personally advising you to raise this with your Union Rep. Do not allow the manager to carry on this way. He needs to be told.

Thank you for the advice.the customer had phoned up my manager to report the pda. the manager said even though i had retrieved the pda.i still should have rung him up to inform him. my current partner and i always check our pouchs/van after our duty. another slip left that i had taken back the other day was placed on the wrong shelf by the staff in the callers office! !to be fair i have had things on my mind this week due to a medical problem(i had to see my gp on friday).
the manager used to be a postie(we used to van share together, and go out for the odd night out,we were good mates).at the moment i feel i am walking on egg shells.

You have no real reason for concern. Again, make your Rep aware, and on doing so your Rep should speak with your manager. Your manager sounds like a bell end!

to be fair if he was wanting rid of you he wouldnt be giving you a warning about suspension he would just keep his mouth shut till he had enough to make a case against you, he may be trying to give you a chance, was it him that got you sacked last time and if it was, was it a malicious attempt to get rid of you?

Perhaps because you were mates he is trying prove he isn't showing you any favouritism by being tougher on you than everyone else? :hmmmm

yes it was the same manager who took me thro the conduct code them passed it up to higher management.
i used to do a lot of o/t for him, sometimes until 730 at night!!/working days of etc .i got very tired and was diagnosed with depression. i mislayed a special,it was found in the office the day after,i was suspended for 3 months.got dismissed, won on appeal.the way things are going i dont think i will get thro the next 18 months without making another mistake.

yeah you are ,, i was up on 10 charges ,, last year ,, half of one was proved ,, there was legitimate excuse for it as well ,, i got a 2 year suspended (im guessing this is what you call probation ) totally ridiculous all of it should have been thrown out,, but then they would have looked stupid ,, so they nailed me on half a spurious claim ,, any way i have spent the last year watching my back like a hawk

In the first place for being dismissed for a special that was mislaid and found within 24 hrs in the office which is a secure area and not lost then I can see how you won your appeal for this did not warrant a dismissal but at most a serious warning of 2 years on your record which the appeals manager has awarded. You would then on having won your appeal received your back wages from the date of dismissal and that makes your ex-mate and manger now look a fool by putting your case to a higher authority to deal with for a punishment that he had the authority to deal with. Probably now he is nit-picking on any mistakes that you make but your current mishaps do not warrant a suspension so your ex-mate is trying to justify to his boss that in your previous case he was right in referring to a higher authority. You will need to speak with your union rep on your situation and that you feel you are being singled out by this manager.

Buy a diary and write in EVERY incident that occurs.

Every time they speak to you in a negative/threatening/intimidating manner.
Any action they take/threaten to take.
Every little thing, write it down, quite detailed, write down times etc.
Then if in the future they bring a case against you, you can produce the evidence that will show what they are doing.

Plus, if their actions/intimidations get severe and/or repetitive enough, you'll have decent evidence for a B&H complaint. Especially if there are witnesses.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.

i have been ill many a times ive still gone to work--only this week ive gone to work not feeling too good, and ive worked my day off!!.i really enjoy my job!!! i know its hard to believe these days!
i still do a bit of o/t for this manager working days off/doing an hour or so after my own duty,i told him it might be best if i stopped doing o/t altogether,he said he would still like me to do o/t,because it benefits both him and it puts money in my pocket.
thanks for the diary advice, ive already wrote all the conversations down/dates/time in my diary.

Doing ot for a manager that tried to sack you and is now intimidating you is quite simply strange.
