October 2016 for the first lot then April 2017 for 2nd allocation. Though lets be honest knowing royal mail I doubt we will do that well out of it come time to sell

You have answered your own question - its 3 years from the date of issue of each tranche of shares (I think). So come April there will be 2 three year anniversaries to watch out for (and 2 five year ones as well if you don't want to pay national insurance on them either).

The share issue date was 15 Oct 2013 IIRC so the anniversaries for the first batch start then.

if you leave RM after the 3 year period.. can you keep your shares, but wait a couple more years and sell them tax free?

Yes and No - Page 24 of the guide you get gives you a full explanation.

Briefly you can keep them, but not in the SIP you have to transfer them on leaving. As you will have taken them out of the SIP then any income tax or National Insurance due will have to be paid. You only don't pay tax and NI if you keep them in for the full 5 years, even after that you will need to pay equitini a commission when you do sell them.

This time, unlike with the ColleagueShares con, Royal Mail will not dictate the share price, 'come time to sell'. The price will be the whatever the Stock Market price is, at whatever time you wish to sell!

At the moment they seem to be fluctuating between about 550p and 600p. Who knows what they'll be worth in 3 years but with everyone trying to sell at the same time the price is sure to fall.
BTW, who gets the dividend for the next 3 years. Rumour has it that it could be has high as 8%.

Shareholders get the dividend and will paid out as a certain amount per share owned. So for example if we own 725 shares each (full timer) and the dividend is 10p per share, then we'll all get £72.50 each.
The percentage only really applies to people that actually bought shares and is based on a ratio between price paid for the shares and dividend amount.
