Employees who are shareholders have a stake in Royal Mail and will be entitled to a share of any profits we may pay in the form of dividends.

A dividend is a portion of a company’s profits that the company pays to its shareholders.

In the absence of unforeseen circumstances, the Board intends to propose a final dividend of £133 million for the year. Like other shareholders, you will be eligible to receive any dividends we pay. If the dividend is approved, you would receive your payment in July 2014, on both your SIP 2013 and SIP 2014 Free Shares, providing you remain eligible.

Companies do not have to pay dividends. Our directors will decide when and how often we will pay dividends to shareholders, and how much these dividends will be. This will depend on many factors, including our company’s performance and future investment plans.

So if I understand this page from HM Revenue and Customs correctly (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxon/uk.htm) most of us won't have to pay any tax on this because the 10% required will already be taken out of the dividend cheque?
