Insured Personnel

Post by robnant »

I guess this happens at every Delivery Office - many people come in early & start well before their "Due Time". This has 2 effects:

1 -It makes those of us who start at their "Proper" start time look as though we are slow prepping our walks. Obviously, those people who come in an hour or so early get on with their prepping etc and consequently, leave the office earlier. This then means they finish early and once again, makes us look slow when you compare the Finish Times.

2 - Are those people who do come in early INSURED? For example, if an 8 o'clock starter always got in to prep their walk at 7.15 and tripped over a "Strappie" breaking their arm, would Royal Mail pay any compensation or would they simply say that the person should NOT have been in the office at that time and were consequently NOT INSURED.

Basically, I am asking if RM turn a blind eye to early starters because it suits them to do so. By starting and finishing early, it simply gives the DOM all the ammunition he/she needs to continue dishing out Lapsing duties. Surely if everyone started at their proper Start Time, lapsing would cease as most would take their full time just to get their walks done.

Just one other note to say how correct we were when asked if we should "absorb" our Door To Door payments into a basic weekly lump sum. We Posties knew exactly what would happen & it has. We are by no means the majority of RM employees and consequently, those who dont have to deliver the damn stuff still get paid what we do.

Under the old "Regime", this week I would have received in excess of £80 for delivering 5 items of DTD to over 800 delivery points. This includes 1 thick "Catalogue Type" item which used to incur higher payment. What do I get paid for delivering 29 bundles of DTD???? £19.00 NINETEEN POXY QUID. It is a joke.

Thanks everyone.

Technically you are still insured even though you come in early.

They are Insured, however paying compensation for an injury is not dependent on whether insured or not, it depends on whether royal mail were partly or fully to blame and thus liable they need to pay out regardless of whether the company is insured or not

I understand what your saying but if my fading memory serves me correctly we were told that the delivery supplement that replaced the d2d payments was a direct replacement and we had a good deal as if we only had one d2d we still got a higher payment than before (not that we ever get only one). As much as some people say that we don't get paid for d2d many of us old timers still see the delivery supplement as a d2d payment rightly or wrongly.

That is the CWUs fault for not explaining clearly. What they said was that the money that paid for the D2Ds per item payment, along with ESA1 and ESA2, was captured and used to pay the Delivery Supplement. It was financial smoke and mirrors exercise nothing else.

The direct effect is that we lost the D2D allowance and got the Delivery Supplement, but when they agreed that D2Ds would be included in the daily workload, IWT :left: that means we do not get paid extra to do the D2D as we once did.
