With the teacher strike that just happened, it highlighted the fact that the general public are not behind strikers, and rightly so in a sense, we, teachers, police etc. still have alot better pay and terms then most the country, and also its not fair to the public to affect their lives.

With talks of more strikes coming up due to people getting fed up with this company, would it not be better to do something like not take D2D's for a week, that way the public like us as they aint getting any, and it will put RM under pressure from the company's that have paid to have D2D's?

Nice idea but it would be very very hard to actually do legally. As they are considered as postal packets in law it would be difficult if not impossible to hold a ballot for delivering only selective products. Its one of the reasons why the ban on DSA never materialised, refusing to deliver D2Ds amounts to the same action.

Also from my experience of the strikes the General Public at least in my Northern Town are generally supportive, but then its a traditional working class town and has a history of industrial conflict going back to the Industrial Revolution and the Luddites. Its the National Press (Daily Mail, Daily Express, Telegraph, Times and Sun) which are against it, but of course its nothing to do with their Editorial Political Stance, and the business owners lurking in the background.

I remember when the public were behind the strikes as we had good reason to do so. I don't go in for all that "Good pay for what we do" Maybe your office is a doddle, but mine isn't. I'm lucky to make 1 hour a week now where I don't finish on time or go over. Our job has it's fair share of crapness.
I strike because I don't want to see my job or the company fizzle out and become even more of a joke than it already is.
Not taking D2D's wouldn't have any effect. Customers don't want them to begin with.

Oh and as far as I'm concerned, I don't give a toss if Joe public supports me or not. It's MY job, MY future. Joe public is too selfish to give a fook about me and my situation.

The sole reason we have better pay and terms is because when the employer has attempted to impose poorer terms and conditions we have not backed down and run away from the difficult decisions.

Nobody wants to strike unless you're completely stupid but it is and will always remain the working man/woman's last and most effective line of defence.

Refusing to deliver D2D is not only dangerous from an employment perspective, It's a completely weak and self defeating gesture because first of all the employer has the legal right to send you home without pay for refusing to do any part of your job and secondly the D2D market is the easiest to outsource to other "agents".

Do you seriously think the managers would ever strike? There union is more spineless than ours!!!!

I have finally realised that D2D's are my friend,putting them together in the morning takes up time and the more time I spend indoors = the less time I spend delivering,learn to love your D2D's and give them a big hug,if you do your job properly there is nothing management can do to you other than pointless threats.
