A member refused a lead in day for holiday

Hi, one of my members has booked a holiday to Italy in the week she has got booked off at work. the problem is the flight is on the saturday before. the Dom has refused to give the lead in day as annual leave is at its maximum.

I've spoke with the Dom today but he said it is not his problem. Has the cwu got any agreement about this? Thanks for any help.

no agreements on this, individual is going to have to try and arrange a swap for that day off, how far of is this holiday booked for?

I was TOLD today by a senior postman that I would lose my next Saturday off because HE was having a lead in day. If he had asked politely I would probably have said Yes, but I will probably tell my DOM that it is not fair and I have already made plans. What happened to common courtesy?

I don't know, but if I was in your shoes I would definitely be 'going away for a long weekend with the missus', sorry.....

she should have checked she could get it before she booked the holiday to be fair, one option you may still have, is has your office agreed a summer lapsing plan to get extra leave spaces during the summer months? if not speak to the DOM and insist on it happening, its part of the pay and mod agreement

Another option is to apply for a days unpaid leave, not a popular option, but the manager may grant it

If that Saturday is your official day off I.e you have signed for that duty in a resign then they can't take it off you,however if you are a reserve that doesn't know which day off you have from one week to the next then obviously you have to have whatever day off they tell you for that particular week.
I can't understand why this senior man can tell you that you are going to lose your next Saturday off though,can you explain a bit more please.

If it is your duty and you have signed for it, the saturday off is your day off, if he wants a lead in day and there are not enough spaces, then tough s**t, the DOM should not be giving days A/L if he doesn't have enough staff to resource it.I know 35 years service people have days off denied due to lack of cover, not kick someone off their day off for it.

He is the office bully....I was warned about him when I started but I always try to think the best of people. I reckon the warnings have proven right. I have spoken to my DOM and been told I will not lose my Saturday.

2. Is it during my holiday ?

If I'm at work sarurday I wouldn't book a friday night flight
