Scottish Power Again

Last year we had a named delivery to every household wanting Scottish Power to give 'an energy assessment' . Sure enough a few weeks later I saw teams of Scottish Power 'energy consultants' knocking on doors going through their usual rigmarole. What I find disingenuous about this offer is that you have to reply (reply card, phone or website) to specifically opt out of getting that knock on the door. It amazes me that the energy regulator and/or OfCom allows this kind of corporate deviousness. 12 months later the same thing arrives on a Saturday morning to all households in my area with the requirement to opt out (as opposed to opting in) to get this assessment Oh yes and expect many who have replied not to fold the reply in 2 and seal it down causing needless sorting again when they arrive back in the depot - thanks a bunch Scottish Power

My day off today but I can only imagine the issues being caused as a result of this piece of junk having to be delivered within one day on a Saturday of all days. I hope this is not a nationwide mailshot

Had to deliver the council tax bills earlier in the week, today I went to 100% of the houses again with another council mailout. Both items in one envelope would have saved the council about £20,000.

Talking to a post room manager at the local council office where I used to work, he said regularly council officers would send letters through external mail, for offices in the same building, apparently they sent one for two offices down in the same corridor, they could have used the internal mail system but why should they worry it's not their money, they can always put the council tax up.

Despite all the moaning and groaning we all do (me included) about D2Ds, bulk mailing, and the way RM manage it there is one very large Elephant sitting in the room. The less work there is, the less workers they want/need.

I will keep saying this, we must all work, even a parasite works, BUT its the end result is the key. Try building a house, spend a fortune on paying out to the bureaucrats to be allowed to build, spend a fortune on the purchase of land. If all that money (time you have worked) was invested in the actual house build, the cost would be cheaper and built to a higher specification. With a higher specification then all your utility costs would fall, the build would last longer (your children children could end up living in it). The end result would be a saving of money (time you have to work). Yes D2Ds pay our wages BUT could all that resource and our time be invested in a more beneficial way were we all gain including the investors who are paying for it.

What is the marketing strategy behind this? People have just had the Council Tax bill, water rates bill and their March winter fuel bills. So yes, let's see if we can squeeze the last penny from down the sides of their sofas for an Indian takeaway, a new Virgin SIM, a new college course, a visit to the supermarket, a funeral plan, a gym membership or a sodding set of blinds.......

It isn't always a marketing stratgegy, its sometimes a department budget strategy. End of the Financial year you have some money left in the Pot so instead of your share dropping next year, because you didn't spend it all this year some bean counters have a last second splurge on a low risk advertisement. So we end up with a glut of D2Ds.

Our Council is quite good , you can make your street a NO COLD CALLING AREA and the Council put a sign on a lamppost in your street.

Yes, quite possibly. But spend it on their staff bonus or night out, rather than this chronic waste of resources and money. Yes, it keeps RM's revenues going but surely this method of marketing must be catastrophically inefficient at the best of times. I have yet to speak to a customer that has ever admitted buying anything via them. I just cannot believe the returns can justify the expense of this junk. I'm sure somebody is lying to someone somewhere along the line.
