NOT TRUE!!!

Post by flowerflump »

We are positive about disability and developing a disability friendly workplace...... I was looking through the job pages online and came across this garbage at the bottom of a job description for a Postman vacancy. How can Royal Mail claim to be all for disability in the workplace when they are systematically getting rid of people who in fact have a disability and are pushing them out the door. I was a victim of the cull that is happening throughout RM. A prolapsed disc forced me to go on the sick and after an MRI scan was told by our friends at ATOS my back was knackered. Was offered IHR with no offer of other employment or retraining or adjustment to duties. In other words on yer bike ! So I had a disability but were they positive about me and my disability? Me thinks not ,so had no choice but to take the IHR. Why I bothered to pay my union subs for over 18 years I'll never know. Got very little help from local and area rep and I would advise people not to always trust union reps because over the years I have seen a few reps turned to the darkside (management). Subsequently, after leaving the business had a second opinion and further tests on my back and it seems the clowns at ATOS had slightly exaggerated my back problem and there was no reason why I couldn't return to work because I would be covered by DDA. My main point is that RM are advertising for things that they say they are positive about but in fact if you have a disability and you work for them they want you out the door! I wonder if RM would re employ me after my two year grace period? Any one else feel they have been shafted by RM ? :arrrghhh

I know what your saying buddy, I know this sounds stupid but I would respect royal mail a lot more if they were to say ....

" we are not an equal opportunity employer we will discriminate against anyone" also " we tolerate B&H in any way shape or form, especially when it comes to our managers getting the results we desire"

" The way we are working is changing, we are giving our postman/women LWT to take the weight off their shoulders.... but they can just dump them under their frames if they want and resume with the old method of bag over shoulder (nothing will be said) because we need the walks to be completed efficiently with limited docket or cut offs"

Another good one 'just say it' moya loves to hear your views, e mail moyas team and we will sort it out... "you will be forever walking around with a target on your back"

"If you have been ill health retired and wish to re join the business after your 2 year grace period and have been given a clean bill of health , then don't waste your effort and time there's no way we will have you back, it has taken us long enough to get rid of you in the first place"

" Managers who have exposed the company to legal liability will be protected and then promoted, we also expect are managers to treat our staff not how they would like to be treated"

really you could go on :pray :pray

Jack, :wave
Yes it should be more :Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody! :Very Happy
Very well put.But then we have been the victims of this kind of `man management` and non help off the union who in my opinion are just as complicit in getting rid of people, still some of us are prepared to not just "Go quietly into the night."

See you in court(again) RM. :wave
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

Leaving aside the personal circumstances and personalities involved, what employer could be reasonably expected to retain someone who was no longer fit for the job in question?
Years ago RM would (and did) slot people into desk/office jobs and keep them employed that way, but those days are gone.Too many are now chasing that sort of job, and the opportunities are much reduced anyway.
What RM's policy aims to do is to give the disabled etc a chance of employment in a job where their disabilities wouldn't prevent them from working, but that's a very different scenario from an employee now longer being able to do the job he's employed to do.
At least RM gives IHR; in 21st century UK many wouldn't....
