Why is that ? If you are not happy with the job your Rep is doing put in for the job .People may not think the union is worth £3 odd a week but I'm sure the people working for TNT would like the benefits that the union has got for us .Remember we are only as strong as our membership.

It mat not be as simple as what has been explained, the Local Rep is the guy/gal you see every day and if they are good Reps happy days but what concerns me is what is to come, the BT2010 was flawed for many reasons, the P&M was also flawed as was the WAY Forward, this New Agreement Agenda for Growth is an unknown entity, it is in my opinion the worst Agreement that the CWU have come up with in recent times, simply for the reason(s) that the Membership will never get to vote on the WHOLE FINISHED DEAL, the Local Reps will try their best(as usual) to implement once all the STRAND groups have FINALISED what will be coming our way(DELIVERIES), so I really cannot justify the "Top table approach" apart from saying that "we are now embedded within this company so f**k you"

The majority voted in the full revision in our office, the planner has now admitted it was only a table top revision, a small minority voted against it.
Some never even got to vote on it, the duties which fail are held by those who voted against it. Only a few duties where changed. Guess which ones. Would I leave the union because of this, no but I do want change. Will change come about, I do not think so, the Union is dying a slow lingering death. RIP

Now is not a good time to quit. Look what is happening and going to happen within the next couple of years. People being sacked on trumped up H&S issues. People being sacked for sickness. They want people out and replaced on 0 hours contracts. We are going to need all the help we can get.

For the price of a good coffee I say the CWU membership is good value.

Just out of interest has the CWU started any recruitment drives into the TNT operation , saw a CWU telecoms rep outside the local Vodaphone call center the other week. I think the 2 security guards they had positioned near her shows Vodaphone wasn't best pleased with her activities.

Funny enough I asked my area rep this question a couple of months back. Acourding to him a rep did approach some tnt workers in London and asked for thier opinions on joining. They were very positive at the first meeting apparently. However a few days later when he approach another TNT worker he would not talk and told the rep that TNT had threatened to terminate contracts if workers were seen talking to anyone from the CWU.

Kinda gives you some idea of their Victorian working conditions.
