Labour Divorcing the Unions

According to the Sunday papers The Labour party is divorcing the unions and are looking to change the opt out financial support to a more reasonable opt in. It would seem that the children of the old guard are also realising that the unions per se are a spent force in shaping the future in any meaningful way either politically or in the work place. Having now been side lined in effect, what use would union leaders be in purporting to have the ear of ministers et al when really nobody is listening and they are merely tolerated rather than included.

perhaps the unions distanced from political parties who don't give a toss about the betterment of working class people is not a bad thing. unfortunately this is what the labour party has become. to think that the labour party was set up as a mouthpiece for the union movement. now it seems to be a club for the political elite to increase their personal hubris.

I'm about to leave the union and re-join the labour party after a number of years absence. I think the party are moving towards listening to the members again and want to be more diverse in recruiting non-union members probably because union membership is in decline and like any organisation requiring financial support they need to chase the cash.

But this isn't a mention it's now policy even with union agreement............though it didn't mention the CWU probably Moya can't make her mind up as to if the CWU are pro or con.................maybe a joint statement to follow?
