Not in our office, the story goes we didn't have enough staff to have sorters, preppers and porters so nobody does portering so the preppers get their own mail from the back of the backless frames - it works well enough so it would appear that the porters could prep really.

how many places use porters because they have just told us we have to use them I have asked to go and see an office were porters work that's were I can't get a straight answer from them help.

We only have porters on days where we have enough sorters (which is to say, probably less than half the time).

IPS seating, in the form of Senator seating stools, is part of the scope for the indoor revision and should have been ordered in sufficient time for their estimated four week arrival time.

Also remember that there is a designated maximum task period in the SSOW of two hours for IPS and porter duties without a break.

We currently have a porterage system, with staff levels as required, however each unit will have different layouts and requirements.

Can't see anyone walking or exerting themselves enough prior to departure to be fatigued.

Not only are you allowed, I think you're supposed to.
Where I am, some do, some don't. It's down to their preferred choice.

I prefer to sit down on IPS as i know it is the only rest i will get for the next 6 hours

And say you're on ips for an hour and a half. Do you get a 5 minute break or anything?

Doesn't work in my office, we don't have enough people on IPS yet we have an army of porters going back and forward clearing down next to no work until their time is up. The IPS then continues past the sorters finish time which angers the non sorters who start later because they have to come up and sort and then people have to clear their own work down after all that.

People then cut off because they've had to spend 30 minutes or more sorting that they shouldn't have been.

DIMs answer to all this is that we don't sort fast enough, nothing to do with 4 people being missing from the ISP because part timers are covering full time duties that are supposed to include IPS. He still expects us to lapse as well on top of all that...

I am not a fan of it, I just started doing porter duty last week and full time delivery for first time for seven month (on light duty for 3 months) and it really killed my legs as I couldn't dance last weekend :(
but at least I am on floating week off :)
