Buydown and seniority

When a fulltimer has a buydown to a 20 hr 4 day contract does he have the opportunity to go back to fulltime. Also is seniority affected?

If your Buy Down in hours is accepted by RM then you will receive a compensatory payment for the reduced hours which is taxable and your reckonable service for pension will remain uninterrupted and your pension subscription will be calculated on a pro-rata basis. HR will issue with a new contract of employment for the hours you are contracted to work. Should you decide to return to full time work at the discretion of your employer and this is accepted within 2 years from the date of your buy down then you will have to return part of your compensatory payment equivalent to the unexpired proportion of the compensatory payment. There will be an impact on your pension while in the reduced hours period and the smaller subscription. I would expect your seniority to be effected as you are now working under a new contract but can't find any mention as to impact on seniority but I am sure that there will be someone who can give you accurate information on this part of your posting.

The Way Forward directive on seniority states seniority applies to Full and part time employees.

Under the way of working and the definition of seniority for general purpose calculation whether full time or part time it commences when starting with the business there are exclusions for breaking of contract but your situation is not included within the exceptions so yes your seniority is not effected.

Seniority is based on length of service, and nothing else. The amount of hours you work has no effect on it.

You may be able to go FT again, but after 2 years, and subject to availability in your unit etc.
