Sent to another Office

Hi Guys,
Couple of mates are being sent to another offices sometimes the entire week actually shows on the ROTA where they will be sent Now my question do they have to travel in their own time or do they come in to our office and get a lift to the office they are meant to work and are they suppose to be back at normal office by finish time? i Think i saw a rule somewhere that we have to travel with their time and not ours but i can be wrong so if somebody knows more about this i would appreciate a answer.

This is from the PAY AND MODERNISATION AGREEMENT - APRIL 2007/2009

Working in nearby offices – Areas will identify and agree with the CWU locally a approach (which could include the use of volunteers and reserves)
to working in nearby offices within employees’ contracted hours which will include travel times and appropriate travel and subsistence arrangements.

FT or Clash will know if it's been updated or not.

Actually - no I don't know.
The case of people being sent to other offices on a weekly/semi permanent basis is unclear.
It would really depend on what it says in their contract as some people are apparently employed as sector reserves.
They aren't attached to any one office.
So I think it is something that needs to be cleared up locally as I'm not sure the wording of P&M covers the situation.

There has been a mobility clause in contracts for quite a long time. Mine is about 7 years old and it has one. Something along the lines of 'Your initial place of work will be <my DO>. The needs of RM require mobility so you may be required to work at any RM location.'

Yes i know about that clause but do they have to start and finish at usual office or just go directly?

being mobile is one thing, other than that it does not seem unreasonable to argue for a primary place of work.
How else or where else are you getting your information as where you are next week or tomorrow. Things change daily, so are the alternatives sit at home and wait for the call to tell you where you are today. Saying that where would the call come from? its not unreasonable to assume its coming from your most frequently attended place of work.

Officially they should start and finish at the home office, that's in the agreement. But if its better for the individual and they have the agreement of their manager I can't see any reason to enforce the agreement so strictly.
